Jace dropped the pages and ran quickly out of the office to his truck. When he pulled up into his driveway Misty and Angel was waiting for him. “They are safe he told himself”, as he ushered them into his truck. He didn’t take the time to load up the suitcases sitting by the side of the truck, as he jumped back into his truck and peeled out of the driveway. There was no way this guy was getting his daughter.
Now he was driving down the highway like a bat out of hell. He would first get his family to a safe place, then he would return and take care of Mr. Kassidy.
“Daddy, its going to be all right.”, called his daughter.” Jacquelyn has told me so.”
Jace eased up on the gas. He didn’t even consider how he must be upsetting his family. He didn’t even give them a explanation to what was happened. Ironic, he thought the little girl’s life I am trying to protect, is calming me down.
Jacquelyn was Angel’s invisible friend that she had developed ever since Jace had taken this case. At first it worried his wife Misty, but Jace rationalized her fantasy friend, as a substitute for him. Considering how this case was taking him away from the house a lot. He had always thought she would eventually grow out of it. “Maybe he just needs to spend more time at home with them.”, he thought to himself.
“Tell Jacquelyn that I am slowing down.” , Jace called back to his daughter.
A chill ran down his spine as a voice tickled his ear. The voice said “Thank you.”. Jace glanced up into his rear view mirror. Sitting next to his daughter was a half naked female, with long blonde hair and, horns.
Jace’s eyes were fixed on the mirror as the female demon caressed his daughters head.
“Jace!” screamed Misty.
Jace looked forward to see a semi coming strait toward them. Instinctively he pulled the steering wheel to the left. The truck went flying off the road where it tipped on the steep embankment and slide down the hill upside down. There was a large crash sound as the truck stopped at the bottom.
The truck laying on its hood, as gasoline poured from its tank. Twisted burning pieces of metal were scattered all across the ground. The occupants of the truck didn’t move and all was silent.
A few minutes had passed when Jace came to. He could feel himself hanging from his seat belt as, blood dripped from a gash in his lips into his eyes. He thought that he must of hit his head in the crash.
He called back to his daughter. A tiny voice moaned back in acknowledgment. Then he reached over to feel for a pulse on his wife’s neck. There was one, to which he thanked God for they were all alive.
Jace slowly reached up and unbuckled his seat belt. He slammed down onto the roof of his truck. Twisting and squirming he managed to crawl out the driver’s side window, which was shattered from the crash.. Once free he reached in and unbuckled his daughter, pulling her to the safety of his strong arms.
He whispered into her ear, as he could feel her tears on his face, “Shhh , Daddy’s here honey, everything will be OK”
“I would not count on that Mr. Wyld.” came a hauntingly smooth voice
