PRESENT:
The Heisenberg principal states 'we don't know where every atom is and what it is doing.' Therefore, scientists find the idea of Star Trek's transporter to be a physical impossibility. 

PREDICTION:
Holograms and morphs will replace conference calls in the third millennium. Every home will have a hologram room, like The Enterprise, for a short vacation after a hard day at work.

Will we need to be smarter with multiple, easily available computers? 'Robot Finds Antarctic Meteor
 Jan. 26, 2000 -- For the first time, a robot has discovered something without help from human handlers: a meteor, the New York Times reports. The four-wheeled robot called Nomad, built by the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, found its first meteor and correctly identified it with it's camera.'

Pet-like robots will replace man's best friend for some people too busy for the daily care of animals.

PRESENT:
Computers are being programmed to understand language, with all it's double meanings and nuances.

PREDICTIONS
By 2030, computer experts predict computers will be downloading an entire human brain within minutes. 

Hal PRESENT:
Today's computers are not capable of communicating with humans as well as Hal in 2001--Space Odyssey. Scientists have discovered the lip reading capacity of computers will open new frontiers in communication.

Small cameras are being used by doctors to provide insight to  medical conditions through less invasive procedures.

PREDICTION:
During the third millennium, minute computers will be programmed to actually perform intricate surgery from within patients, replacing invasive surgery.

PRESENT:
The size of computers and cameras is decreasing--increasing productivity. Penny for penny, dollar for dollar, preventive and wellness health will become more important than fighting diseases and aging.

PREDICTION:
Preventive health care will be aided by ingestible computers which will monitor our health. Daily detailed reports will be as accessible as stepping on our scales today. Medicine cabinets will interact with internal computers to report on dosage of medicine or vitamins needed.

Clothing containing computers  will adapt to the climate and body temperature.


PRESENT:
Clothing (made of teflon) will soon be in production, which will repel stains. 

PREDICTION:
Clothing will become our first defense against injury, defense and identification. Our clothes will protect us against the damaging rays of the sun, and summon an ambulance when needed for medical emergency.  
  

 
 
Cameras for law enforcement purposes, are now used extensively in London for surveillance (and other cities around the world) to fight crime. Computer, with the ability to read lips combined with the newest hight tech cameras will be able to zoom into every conversation.
