"Without Galvatron to lead us, the Decepticons are finished!"--Cyclonus, "Webworld" (TF)
I bought an extra TM2 Sonar for the express
purpose of repainting him into Cyclonus. The idea, you see, is that
Cyclonus assumed a beast mode after he traveled back to prehistoric Earth
in search of Galvatron's killer. There's a
fanfic
in the works, incidentally...
Anyway, this was a fairly easy repaint, facilitated
greatly by the color model I drew up before I began. The toughest part
was to figure out how to alter his spark crystal. The Maximal symbol
was actually "branded" into the back of the piece of plastic, so after
disassembling him, I scraped away at the plastic until the indentation
disappeared. I then drew a (very) tiny Decepticon symbol and stuck
it behind the rounded plastic. (It had to be even smaller than the
crystal itself, since the crystal acts as a magnifying lens.) As luck
would have it, I later picked up a TM2 Dinobot (which quickly became
TM2 Grimlock) and was able to swap
the green spark crystal for a purple one.
The toy originally had a lot of
gold "fur pattern" sculpting that wasn't painted originally (most notably
on the legs and robot chest), but which I decided needed to be painted black.
The transmetalized red became a deep silvery-purple, while everything
else became either purple or grey, with the occasional silver or orange
highlight.
In case you're wondering, I disassembled him for the robot-mode scan so more parts would touch the scanner and thus show up more clearly. If the crappy scans bug you that badly, you can always send me a digital camera for my birthday...
