The company was started with the mission to uplift the rural farmers who are mainly dependent on agriculture. For this, supply of quality seeds well in time at affordable prices is imperative.

A) Seed Industry :
Seed industry is the major activity of the Nirmal Seeds (P) Ltd.. This industry comprises :

1. Research and development activity
2. Production of quality seeds.
3. Seed processing
4. Marketing of seeds.

1) Research & Development ( R&D) :

Strong R& D backup is pre-requisite for the success of any Industry. The Nirmal Seeds R & D unit posses 50 ha. of farm supported with well equipped laboratory, uptodate library and controlled polyhouse for experimentation. Highly qualified twelve scientists and twenty technical persons are engaged in development of unique hybrids and standardization of package of practices for different crops.

The Nirmal’s R & D is recognized Research unit by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. It is also one of the recognized co-ordinating for Centres of Indian Council of Agril. Research (ICAR), New Delhi for Vegetables, Sorghum, Wheat, Pearlmillet, Maize, Cotton, Oil seeds, Pulses, etc.

Some of Nirmal’s hybrids proved the superiority over the existing recommended hybrids under the diverse agroclimatic conditions. For example, the sorghum hybrid NJH-21 and sunflower hybrid NSSH-27 are top ranking in All India Co-ordinated trials continuously. The number of hybrids in Vegetables, Sorghum, Pearlmillet, Sunflower & Wheat varieties are performing excellent in different regions of the country.

The intensive research over a decade resulted in development of more than 52 hybrids /varieties in different crops.

2) Seed Production:
Quality seed production is a prime importance for getting expected high yields. Seed production programme of Research and Public breed hybrids/varieties are implemented on the farm of progressive seed growers identified by the company. The seed production programme is organised on more than 20,000 ha.area under the guidance of well trained and experienced team of 20 technical staff headed by senior most seed technologist.

At present the company is producing seeds of 75 varieties in 30 crops every year.

3) Seed processing :

To ensure the expected quality, seed processing is invitable. For this, company has established two processing plants with all required accessories. The processing unit is run by the M. Tech. Engineer with the help of 16 skilled, technical and 150 unskilled personnels. To test the genetic purity of seed and to meet the seed standards, the company has established well equipped seed testing laboratory.

Adequate seed storage facility has been developed. In processing unit, raw seed is cleaned, graded, treated with pesticides, packed and sealed for marketing.

4) Marketing :

Marketing has to play a key role in any seed organisation. Nirmal Seeds has very good marketing network comprising Eight General Manager (Marketing), two Marketing Managers, 30 Sr.sales Representatives 100 Junior sales representative, 50 Distributors and 150 preferred dealers and about 300 retailers in Maharashtra state as well as in the adjoining states.

Company has Regional Marketing offices & Godowns at Jalgaon, Akola, Parbhani,Pune,Indoore, Ahmedabad with one Goods Carrier Trax in each region.

Company has strong team in marketing activity through on farm field demonstration. The extensive network of dealers and distributors made possible to increase the sale of Seeds substantially.

B) BIO-PRODUCTS :
a) Bio-Power (Bio Soil Enricher) b)Bio-Force (Bio-Plant Growth Stimulants)
c) Paripoorna (Bio-Organic manure) d) Bio-Fertilizer e) Bio-Pesticides

Bio Soil Enricher & Bio-Plant Growth Stimulants :
To enhance the yield potential of different crops by reducing flower and fruit drop, increasing fruitset, fruit number, weight and thereby yield through exogenous application of plant growth stimulants and soil conditioners. For this, the company has recently started manufacture of Bioproducts viz. Bioforce and Biopower. Both these products are completely organic and free from chemicals. They helps to improve the plant growth, flowering, fruiting and ultimately yield to the extent of 20-30% in different crops under different conditions. The use of these products will help to produce organic vegetables and fruits suitable for export.

Bio-organic manures :
Paripoorna : It is a Bio-organic manure recommended for different crops along with only 65-70 % of the recommended dose of chemical fertilizers. It improves soil health & nourishes the crop plants thereby increasing substantial yield levels.

Bio-fertilizers/Bio pesticides :
It has been experienced that the productivity of the land is declining year after year. This has resulted because of excessive use of chemical fertilizers and irrigation water. The natural flora of beneficial bacteria’s is imbalanced due to soil pollution. To maintain soil productivity, it is necessary to increase the flora of beneficial bacteria. This could be done through the adequate use of biofertilizers. The biofertilizers will also help to reduce the doses of chemical fertilizers to the extent of 20-25% and improve the yield potential upto 10-15%. The valuable foreign exchange for import of chemical fertilizers could also be saved substantially. Considering all these factors, the Nirmal Seeds has started production of Biofertilizers and Biopesticides under the trade name Bhuparis. The following Bio-Fertilizers and Bio-Pesticides are produced in well equipped and scientifically designed laboratory of Biotech division of Nirmal Seeds. At present about 100 tons of Bio fertilizers are produced annually.

BIO - FERTILIZERS / BIO-PESTICIDES

C) CottonGinning & Pressing:

For the convenient of farmers of adjacent area and to extent help and co-operation to the Govt. of Maharashtra State, the company has started cotton ginning and pressing unit in its premises. During 1999-2000 the unit has processed 50,000 quintals of cotton procured by cotton Federation of Maharashstra.

D)Industry Trend
In Seed industry the use of hybrid varieties is increasing substantialy. The hybrid varieties in cotton, vegetables and cereals have very good scope in future. It is projected that more than 50% area will be covered under hybrid varieties.

The uses of Bio-fertilizers and Bio-Pesticides have great future for production of organic fruits and vegetables for export purpose. Bio-Pesticides are nontoxic; non-polluted substances useful for maintaing soil health and control of pests and diseases under integrated pest management system.

In nutshell, there is increasing trend for use of hybrid varieties, Bio-fertilizers, Bio-Pesticides and growth stimulants and soilconditioners, in general in India and particular in Maharashtra, this trend is quite encouraging for production of quality produce specially for export purpose.

E) Future Strategy :
Apart from the existing activity of seed development, production, processing and marketing, the company has planned to export hybrid seeds of vegetables, pearlmillet and maize to Gulf countries, Sirlanka and other Asian and African countries. The seed export will help to earn the valuable foregin exchange to the country and also it will add in profitability of the company.

It has been also planned to export Biofertilizers, Biopesticides, Plant growth stimulants to Gulf countries, Nepal, Mauritius, Indonesia etc.

It has been also planned to develop Tissue Culture Laboratory for production of elite varieties of Banana and Sugarcane and Plant Genetic Engineering division to develop genetically modified organisms (GMOS) having natural resistance for diseases and pests.

It has been projected that in next five years, the marketing of seeds, biofertilizers, biopesticides and plant growth stimulants would increase in manyfolds so as to reach the total turnover to Rs. 100 crores. To achieve this target, the company has proposed tie up with overseas companies for contract hybrid seed multiplication programme in high value crops and export.
