Brian Warner
was born in Canton, Ohio in 1968. He grew up in what was
called a Christian home.
He also attended a Christian school. Brian was born an
"ugly kid" as he put it in one
of his interviews -- very skinny and not too
great looking.
Brian was picked
on a lot at school and didn't have many friends. In fourth
grade, Brian brought a picture
in for show and tell -- a picture his
grandmother took of a cloud formation.
Brian told the class he thought the
picture had what looked like an
angel in the clouds. Brian was trying to fit
in with his classmates' Christian
views and he thought by bringing in this
picture that he was. Instead
he was sent to the principles office, scolded
and sent home for this. They
told him he was blasphemous to God.
Later on Brian
was cast as Jesus in a play. During the play, a couple of
classmates tore off the linen cloth
he was wearing and started beating him
with it as he ran down the hall
naked in front of the whole school.
At home his life
didn't seem to be too different. Brian said in one
interview, "The only time I saw
my dad was when he was beating me with a
folded belt, punishing me for something.
He would always find something to
beat me over. Dad said I
was worthless and would never amount to anything.
My parents knew how to lay down
the law, but never showed any love in it."
Brian encountered
many Christians who judged him, but none would ever love
him. Brian Warner formed
a band in his 20's and for the first time he felt
accepted -- by his fans and by
other people who were not good enough
Christians. For the first
time he was appreciated and he even felt loved.
Brian Warner
changed his name. His new name is now Marilyn Manson. He
has a huge following -- most of
them are kids that have not felt loved or
accepted. They have formed
a gang, a group that is against American
Christianity. The version
of Christianity that condemns and looks down
on people without accepting or
reaching out. Let's remember: Though Marilyn
Manson is evil, has awful music,
dresses evil, looks evil, hates everything
and wants to reach out to kids
that nobody wants to reach out to, in an odd
way he wants to love them and have
them love him. And, let's remember: God
loves him and still wants to save
him. |
