My Mom, Sister & Cousin

These are the people in my family who I actually get along with and don't mind calling family -- my mom; my sister, Cassi; and my cousin, Heather. They've supported me unwaveringly through everything I've done, even the really stupid shit, and they're probably the only reason the whole Marilyn Manson thing (I work for MM) hasn't driven me completely over the edge. I love them all, and I wouldn't be where I am today without them. Of course, this could be good or bad, but in their case, it's good, because though I am in a rather warped situation right now, it would be a lot worse without their support.

These are all pretty old pictures. The one of my mom is from about 1975 (Yeah, that's me with her.). The ones of my sister and cousin are from 1994, when I started my 'zine, Levity, which was to be "an Ethereal+Gothic+Punk+Industrial 'Zine." So we went out and took "gothic" pictures. Wanna see more? Knock yourself out, kid.

(BTW: Levity ended up losing its "punk" intentions, as the only "punk" stuff I received was from Epitaph. Yuck. I had meant "gothic/punk" or "punk/industrial," not "Epitaph." So I dropped the "punk" from the subtitle. Most of the "ethereal" stuff I received bored me, so I dropped that, and most of the Goths i met just annoyed the hell out of me, though I did like some of the music. I kept the "Goth" part for a little while, but I finally decided that the only "scene" I was completely into -- the only people I could really stand to be around for extended periods of time and the only music I could listen to 24/7 and never tire of -- was the electronic+industrial scene. Thus, Mainline.)

(Above) This is my mom (& me). It just helps all-around when your parent(s) support you in every way possible, and my mom has always been there for me, in every way possible. Luckily, she trusts me (who knows why?!?), and even when I make a bad decision, she is very reassuring and always has some like experience to share, with the moral that everything is going to be ok. She's been right most of the time.

(Above) This is my cousin, Heather. She turned 17 in April. She cracks me up. She's a lot like me. She's a psychopath.
'Nuff said

(Left) This is my sister, Cassi. I'm convinced that she is the only person in this world who thinks like me; I mean, exactly like me. I raised her well (She's 4 years, 8 months younger than me. She turns 18 in August). We have some kind of telepathic link or something, too, because we don't even live together (she lives with my mom, in Spanaway -- about 65 miles from me, in Seattle) and we'll call each other out of the blue with the same thoughts and revelations. We have said the exact same thing at the exact same time, completely unprompted and off-topic, and we've just guessed each other's thoughts several times.

Like I said, this is an old picture. For a while, she had shoulder-length platinum blonde hair -- like Marilyn Monroe -- and dressed like she was from the '50s. She watches all the old movies and knows all about the old actors and actresses. It's pretty cool. She's also way into fashion, and knows more than any 17-year-old should -- all the way from the 1800's to the present, and she stays abreast of all the current trends around the world. She wants to be a fashion designer when she "grows up," though -- like me -- she never plans to really do that.... grow up, I mean.

Earlier this year, she "discovered" old school punk. She wants to marry Darby Crash... too bad he's dead. Anyway, now she's become an authority on that. I love this kid. At the moment, she has her hair cut like the "Cat Woman," Sue Lucas. Go watch The Great Rock & Roll Swindle and you'll see what I mean. It looks pretty cool if you ask me, but then, I'm the one who cut it like that, so of course I'm gonna be a bit biased. I'll get a picture soon and post it here.

All things considered, her romanticism of the past is about the only big difference between us. I can't wait for the future... for Blade Runner and Ghost in the Machine and The City of Lost Children. She's fascinated with the past, and how stagnant and unexciting certain aspects of our lives are today, compared with bygone days. I have to agree that there has been some damn cool music in all eras of the past, and that goes for fashion as well... but give me latex and PVC and big boots and glitter and big raver kid pants and technicolor hair and music made with computers and I'm in utter euphoria. *swoon!*
