Biography

Nene Romanova grew up a perfectly normal family: Two parents and one child. Nene was alone as a child so she was spoiled and her parents were overprotective of her. She tired of this and wanted to rebel but personality-wise Nene was not one to dye her hair green or pierce her nose. She was very smart, though, so Nene chose to rebel in her own way, which was by being a hacker.

Nene was only eleven was the Second Great Kanto Earthquake struck and it did not affect her at all. For most of her life she had been living under the strict control of her parents, but through the use computers she could do anything without even leaving her bedroom. Nene skipped classes at her school to play around with her computer. She became very good at hacking, something for which she had a natural talent. With practice Nene was able to get good enough to break into official city records when she was sixteen years old. From there she altered her age and history. When she turned seventeen she joined the AD. Police and became a dispatcher in an attempt to help the citizens of the city and do something with her life.

The same year that Nene joined the AD. Police, in 2031, Sylia Stingray began to recruit the Knight Sabers. Her final step was to recruit a communications expert who would man the high-tech equipment on the battlefield. Because Sylia would be busy in charge of the group, she had to get someone else to do it, but first that person had to prove herself capable. To find someone, she placed a 'help wanted ad' on the internet. Nene came across it while she was using the internet and instantly started working on it. Without many problems Nene cracked the codes and found the password ("Knight Sabers"). When she got to the base of the message there was an image of Sylia Stingray mimicking the Uncle Sam recruitment campaign that the Americans had used. The words "I Want You!" appeared at the top of the computer screen. Without hesitation, Nene accepted the invitation to join the Knight Sabers.

Personality

After Linna, Nene is the most open Knight Saber. She is emotional and likes to make a statement with exaggerated gestures and a loud voice. She is very cute and usually softspoken but is not afraid to take command and yell once in awhile. Nene is not at all the sort to be a leader. She comes in third of the Knight Sabers, after Sylia and Linna, just ahead of Priss Asagiri.

Nene is a kind young woman. Like Linna, she wants to help people who need her. That is why she joined the AD. Police. As a dispatcher she is the go-between for the units and can keep them in touch with one another, playing a crucial part of the AD. Police's defense. She serves a similar purpose on the Knight Sabers, although it's debatable as to whether or not Sylia really needed someone working the communications when she could have done it herself, or had Mackie participate on a more regular basis.

Nene is a concert lover. She and her friend Naoko like to go to concerts, including the Vision concert at the Tokyo Dome. Nene is young and impressionable, far more naive than Sylia, Linna, and even Priss. Thus, Sylia shelters her from some of what goes on in the Knight Sabers. Nene often hides behind Sylia and the others in battle and is totally useless for physical combat. Her Hardsuit can hook up to almost any computer, though, letting her break into computers that the Knight Sabers would otherwise be unable to touch. She proved this ability to be very useful when Miriam Yoshida had his Boomers attack the AD. Police HQ in episode eight.

There is a budding romance between Mackie and Nene that is hinted at from episode two and on, but it never goes anywhere outside of the two giving each other cute looks and helping one another out. Once or twice Leon McNichol tries to get Nene to go out with him but Nene either sticks very strictly to the eleven regulations of the Knight Sabers or just is not interested in Leon. Nene is the second most technologically inclined Knight Saber after Sylia Stingray (she merely uses the equipment that Sylia designs, creates, and programs...).
