There will not be many if any updates over the next two weeks as I have exams. Hopefully I should find some time to do the Engine/Site.

Some of you may notice the ugly banner at the top of the page, for some reason fortunecity have decided to replace the pop-up with the banner, and I can't choose where its positioned. Anyway, I'll post when I can. c ya.

Well surprise surprise, I havent done the octree code, I have however improved the collision detection. It now uses an ellipsoid instead of a sphere. There are still plenty of bugs to iron out, dont want to go falling through floors now do we :) I wont upload the new version until I do the octree and fix any bugs you guys point out.

The counter is racing up today! Ive had about 12 vistors today, which considering I havent advertised the site anywhere besides IRC, is quite alot.


Early Morning Update 1:20am

I've made a few tweaks additions to the engine. Mainly camera adjustments the camera now isnt so "slidey" and the field of view is wider, more realistic IMO. Also I've added a sniper scope, just out of shear boredom. It probably wont stay in its current form, I just wanted to have some fun with the FOV :)

Yesterday I had a total of 10 visitors! Must all be from #coding or #moddev coz my address keeps popping up where I keep getting dc'd. :D

I'll try to do the octree today, if I have time. Anyway, its time for bed, i'll post again later.


Sorry Nothing New

Hey everyone, I havent had time to do anything to my engine. I still need to re-write the octree code as the last attempt was a disaster. After that I'll update the collision detection code. Please if you have any thing you guys want posted here just let me know. I know that the total vistor count today was 6 so its hardly great advertising, but what the hell. :)


Engine Test Online

There is a link on the left to the engine at its current stage of development. If you test it please let me know about any bugs you find, either in the message board, or via e-mail, or in #coding or #moddev on gamesNet. Also tell me the FPS and your system spec. The download will be updated as soon as I finish each major feature.

You may need a dll to run the program, just click the MSVC DLL link on the left to get it.


Sick of illness

Yup updates are slow, i'm still recovering from the tonsillectomy, but as soon as i'm well again I'll upload some tutorials. The counter is climbing very slowly so I know someones visiting besides me :)

Too Much Work, Too Little Time

Well its been a long day, got up at 10am started working at 10:30am. I had two assignments to do ASAP what with my op and all. Well, 1 hour into it, me and Andy hadnt written a thing, "What the hell is a development plan?". So we started tidying up what we had till we worked it out, 2 hours later, we still didnt know. My grandad brought in a cup of tea and told us he new what a development plan was!

So we got that done, 1 assignment to go. We thought we had a couple of pages to do, how wrong we were! In small print at the bottom of the assignment was "Length: 16 pages" !!! So now I have to do another 2 and a half pages by tomorrow evening and then some more on wednesday. Oh well.

On the bright side, I managed to scan in two sketches of one of the characters of the game I'm designing, don't laugh! I'm no artist, I have a mate that will do the final ones :) Just click the link on the left. TTFN.


Frustratingly Confused

Today I thought I'd give MS3D loading and skeletal animation a go. Everything went to plan at first, I have now got fully working ms3d loading code. The thing is finding info on animating it is difficult. I've taken a look at Brett Porters tutorial and it looks like I'm gonna have to change my loading code alot to add the animation unless I can think of a better way.

Oh well, maybe I've been staring at the screen too long. Good News though! I finished my Quaternion class!! Its untested at the mo, but as you can ask anyone from #coding, I've been meaning to finish it for months.

My top secret project is going well (excluding the ms3d loading) I'm doing the designing, art, coding all at the same time so progress in each area is slow but everything's moving along steadily. At the moment I have a basic storyline, a list of ideas for whats gonna happen in the game (key scenes etc.) also some ideas on what the characters will look like.

I will post some character sketches soon, probably one of the main fire breathing enemies (hint) I'm gonna start writing the level convertor asap. It will convert the .map files from worldcraft to my format and build the octree for the map. So much to do :)
