Ms. Denise Soulsby Elementary School Band Director Asst. Marching Band Director
Miss Denise Soulsby is in her fifteenth year at Field, with a previous three-year tenure in the Akron Public Schools. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Akron, moving on to a Master of Music in Performance from Kent State University. During her master's work, her quintet was honored by being featured at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Since then, Miss Soulsby has done post-graduate work at both Kent and Cleveland State Universities. Miss Soulsby is currently an OMEA adjudicator, judging contests across the state, and has taught workshops in music education at the University of Akron. She is a member of the Emerald Winds Quintet that provides school programs and masters classes throughout the state, as well as a full concert series. The Emerald Winds is featured in the Ohio Art Council's Performing Arts of Ohio booklet, is a member of the Chamber Music of America, and is listed in the National Registry of Performing Artists. Miss Soulsby, as a member of the International Federation of Musicians and The International Clarinet Society, also performs with the Blossom Festival Band, The Youngstown Symphony, and in other freelance union performances. In addition, she received a grant from the Ohio Arts Council in 1994, designed to assist her with what really is her ultimate goal, to impart her lasting love for performance to her students through her teaching, that they may espouse this lifelong appreciation for music.
