What's this all about, then?
Welcome to issue number 3 of "Off Beat Lyrics", bringing you the lyrics you won't find
elsewhere on the Net ... we think. Lyrics to songs that are
almost or completely forgotten. Songs that - for whatever reason - aren't played on the
radio anymore, have faded from view, or weren't in view in the first place, but still have interesting lyrics and/or background
stories to them. Bizarre, humorous, novelty songs... Obscure or forgotten, funny or plain weird,
you will be able to discover them here!
And since we're not expecting you to actually know these songs, you will find not only the words but also the music
itself (or sizeable excerpts) in
RealAudio format, plus a picture of the record sleeve or artist if possible.
Note: You will need the RealAudio player (RealPlayer) to enjoy the music. This can be downloaded for free from the
RealNetworks site. Go get it now if you don't already have it (but come back later...)
Songs will be presented in weekly instalments, with one or two new songs each week (approximately). Previous episodes will
remain available as long as there is room in this dwelling.
Lyrics are our own transcriptions, except if noted otherwise, so don't rely too much on them
(See the disclaimer)...
This Week's song is a Questionnaire brought to you by Chas Jankel.
This song can be found on his 1981 LP "Chasanova" on A&M Records and was also
released on a single.
And since the song is a questionnaire in itself, our transcription is a questionnaire too.
That is, you can fill in your answers to Chas' questions below and send them in to the
Ministry of the Future... represented by... us!
[We promise we will treat them with the utmost discretion].
No need for a postcard of course, the indescribably complicated quantumphysical processes
known to you as the Internet will take care of delivery. Just click on the button with the
text "to the Ministry of the Future" and your questionnaire will be on its way. Give it a try!
No prizes to be won, but the funniest/best entries may get a mention in future issues!
Chas Jankel didn't achieve as much notoriety as his mate Ian Dury. His best-known
songs are "Glad To Know You", this "Questionnaire", and "Ai No Corrida" (also recorded
by Quincy Jones). He and Ian Dury co-wrote many excellent songs, including hits such as
"Sex & drugs & rock 'n' roll", with original and often witty lyrics.
He also produced quite a few of Ian Dury's records.
