Overlays for Story Writing

When writing stories, don't restrict yourself to your regular wordprocessing package. Remember that any programme that allows you to input text will be suitable for overlays. Some of the programmes I have used for writing activities with overlays include:

"Kid Pix" and "Kid Pix Studio" by Broderbund
"Storybook Weaver Deluxe", "Storybook Weaver" and "My Own Stories"
Eudora and Netscape Email
"Imagination Express" - various titles, by Edmark

Rainy Days - a simple overlay to write simple sentences about what happens on rainy days. These sentences came from my students. I like to build overlays with the students helping me.

Animals - This is a really simple sentence writing overlay where the students choose if they like to feed or play with a variety of animals.

The Hungry Goat - These two overlays are identical, except for the fact that one has pictures and the other is only text. I used them with "Storybook Weaver" to make a story with my students.
