Girl Monstar Index

Girl Monstar formed in 1988 by Sherry Valier; a then recent escapee of the great beachy north of Queensland, Damian Child; a girl masquerading under a boy's name, and Anne McCue; guitarist wonder girl and ex-Sydneysiding film school graduate.

They performed their first live show on the 11th of November 1988 at Heroes in North Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, with drummer Richie Hines (who later went off to tour Europe with the Screaming Tribesmen).

Susie World, ex-Wet One and dancing drummer, joined the band after being asked to stand in for a video clip for 'Teenage Dinosaur'.

Appearances were made on 'The Factory' and 'Countdown Revolution' - two of Australia's main music programmes put to air by the ABC at the time. The girls recorded a special 'live to Air' for RAT TV, the television station of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

Many great bands were supported by the Monstar in their four year career including:

  • The Ramones
  • The Buzzcocks
  • Skid Row
  • D.A.D.
  • The Divinyls
  • Skyhooks
  • The Hoodoo Gurus
  • Died Pretty
  • Celibate Rifles
  • Screaming Tribesmen
  • Candy Harlots
  • Kings of the Sun
  • Nick Barker
