Hello again. It's been a while since I last updated everyone on what's been happening with Wings of Gold. The last few months have been fast and furious. We thank God daily for the blessings He's poured out on the group.
Since our last letter, Ron Sanford, lead vocalist for the group, has decided to leave us and pursue new avenues in his life, as the Lord leads. We all understand and pray that God will bless him and give him the desires of his heart. We thank Ron for his short stay and want him to know how much we were blessed by his lovely voice and God-centered spirit. We also want to thank him for the use of his equipment when we needed it most.
As we have sought the Lord for the past weeks, we have made the decision to remain as a trio, for now. We've been complimented on the dynamic sound we get as a threesome and feel it is God's will for us to go on as we are. However, we are not saying that if an awesome first tenor came along we wouldn't snatch him up at a moments notice. We are praying that God will send us the right person to fill that spot in His timing.
We were blessed a couple weeks ago when one of our brother's in Christ with the outstanding group Back Porch allowed us to borrow some of his equipment with an option to buy at a fabulous price. Thanks Poncho. And we were then amazed and thrilled when just last week Doug's parents informed us that they were donating the money to pay for the equipment. What a blessing.
Wings of Gold has been performing at a Lake Jackson opry, Lake Theatre, for the past few months and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The owner, Bobby Reed, a fine Christian businessman, has offered us the opportunity to come and minister at the "Hallelujah Night" gathering the first Saturday of each month. We couldn't pass that up.
Lake theatre is a remarkable place for this area of the State of Texas. It has the feel of a Branson theatre. They have a live band with professional musicians, some of which have played for the Grand Ole Opry, and country stars such as Reba McIntire and Brooks and Dean. The atmosphere is almost like a church service with banners all over the building promoting God's Word. The employees there are the friendliest you will find anywhere. Come visit the Opry if you're ever in the Lake Jackson area. You won't be disappointed.
WOG is now working on our first project at SRS studios in Magnolia, Tx. It will include the original song by Paula, Wings of Gold, that we recorded several weeks ago and a few oldies but goodies that I think just about all southern gospel fans enjoy such as Dig A Little Deeper, I Bowed On My Knees and Cried Holy, Jubilee's Comin, Sweet Beulah Land, and many others.
We should have the project completed by the end of March in time for the South Texas Gospel Music Associations Awards banquet. We were nominated for the new quartet of the year, but our name has been withdrawn since we've become a trio. The banquet will be held March 23-24 in San Antonio and we will be singing that Sunday at an area church. Visit STGMA's internet homepage at www.stgma.com where WOG has been selected as Active Members of the Month of February, 2001.
We will be sending out a promotional package with a introduction to the group and demo tape to churches all around the southern states and pray that God will give us the opportunity to come and minister to many new brothers and sisters in Christ. If you would like a package just drop us a line at our email address. We would love to hear from you.
We want to thank our friends for their financial support and mostly their much needed prayers.
Til next time God Bless You and Keep Singing and Lifting the Name of Jesus Higher
