Nick was a nervous wreck. He told his friends to meet him and Sharon at the club. He was only waiting on her now. It had been a little less than an hour. Within minutes he heard the doorbell. He ran downstairs to answer it.
"Hey Sharon, whoa...you look great." Nick said, taking her in from head to toe.
"Oh so now you're shocked that I look good? So now I'm ugly."
"No, no! I was just saying that..." Nick tried to explain.
"Shut up! Let's get the hell out of here." Nick quickly shut up and led the way to his Durango. They got in and were on their way.
"Can I smoke in here?"
"Yeah sure! Go right ahead." Nick stopped himself before he talked too much. He hated smokers and cigarettes, especially in his car, but...it was her.
"So uh you didn't bring any friends." Nick said, trying to ignore the smoke. He felt like he was going to choke. Would the smell ever leave his car?
"Yeah well I just moved here so, you know..."
"Yeah, I forgot about that. How are you liking Tampa so far."
"It sucks. My mom enrolled me in Tampa Prep for this fall. I can't wait," Sharon said very sarcastically. "I'm trying to graduate after junior year if I get enough credits and keep my grades up. I've been taking lots of summer courses so hopefully that should help." Nick was grateful that she was opening herself so much to him. He ventured to get more personal.
"So did you have a boyfriend back in...where did you say you lived?"
"I didn't."
"Oh. Where did you live?"
"Boston. I've had a few boyfriends but I didn't really leave anyone behind. I hated it there to tell you the truth, and the only thing better about Tampa is that any club or bar will take a fake ID."
"Well maybe it'll grow on you. The club's right up here." They pulled up to the club and quickly found a parking space. They walked in and Nick spotted his friends right away.
"Hey guys, I'd like you to meet Sharon. Sharon, this is Brian, Kevin, AJ, and Howie." They all said hello, and Sharon grunted in reply. Her gaze held when it reached AJ. He thought she was enchanting and she didn't think he was too shabby either. He seemed much more confident than Nick, and a much better dresser. She threw these ideas out of her mind.
"Nick, how about a drink, eh?" Sharon suggested.
"Well, maybe we should wait..." but Sharon was already on her way to the bar.
"I'll catch you guys later," Nick said to his friends as they went off to dance.
"I'll have a bourbon on the rocks, thanks." Sharon killed her drink in one gulp without a flinch. She had a couple more just as effortlessly. By this time she was ready to dance.
"Shall we?" she asked Nick.
"Sure!" Anything to get her away from the bar. They began to dance, and to Sharon's dismay, Nick was not a great dancer. Not even close.
"Can I cut in?" AJ asked when he saw that Nick was making a fool of them both.
"Sure, come on in," Sharon said eagerly.
"Uh, ok, but just for a minute," Nick replied. He sat down and watched as Sharon and AJ cut a rug. They danced real well together. It soon became evident that they were having a bit too much fun on the dance floor, and Nick was becoming more jealous by the second. He ran up to AJ.
"What the hell do you think you're doing???" Nick screamed, his voice cracking a bit.
"Dude, chill out we're just having a good time." AJ said.
"Nick what the fuck is your problem, I'm not your girlfriend!" Sharon screamed. Nick put his head down and sulked over to the bar. Sharon felt terrible.
"What is wrong with me?" she asked herself. "He is a loser...AJ is hot and can dress. So why do I feel like shit? Damn it." She finally went over to Nick. At first she didn't say anything and just ordered a few more drinks. Eventually she had to break the silence, and by this time she was very drunk.
"Hey...I didn't mean to scream at you. What do you say we go back to my place, huh?" Nick couldn't resist. "Yeah, let's get outta here. Let me help you to the car." He could already see that she would need help again. It was heaven just to have his arm around her. He feared that he was falling for her hard. When they got to the car, Sharon closed her eyes and rested the entire trip. Nick silently admired her.
"Hey, we're home." Nick said, gently waking Sharon.
"Mmm. Ok. Do you want to come in?"
"Do you want me to?" Nick asked. She thought he looked so adorable then.
"Of course...please come in. My mom's not even home." They walked in together, going up to her bedroom.
