I drove away with Shannah buzzing in my ear.
"Howie is so romantic," Shannah smiled.
"We walked around the beach and talked. He is so sweet, he sang Mariah Carey's "My All" to me. We walked around laughing and he told me about being on tour and stuff. I gave him my number and we might be going out tomorrow."
I smiled at Shannah's enthusiasm, it was obvious she had had a good time. Before leaving we had exchanged numbers with Hazel, Jessica, and Dominique. I could not wait to hook up a party line and discuss tonight's events. I dropped Shannah off at 2:30 a.m. and headed home myself. Tomorrow would be an interesting day.
I woke up the next day to a bombardment of questions from my family. How was the concert? Did they look as good in real life as they did on television? I ended up telling them that I had met and kicked it with the Backstreet Boys. At first no one believed me until I showed them my sandy pants and A.J.'s jeans. I was just finishing my story (minus the kiss) when my phone rang.
"Hello."
"Hi, may I speak to Kelly?"
"This is she."
"Wazup, this is A.J."
"Oh hi A.J., how are you?"
I could hear my little sister screaming and see my mom staring at me funny. I took my phone into my room and sat down at my desk.
"Much better that I hear your voice," he said.
I did a silent scream as I tried to get myself under control. We talked for a few minutes before he told me that there was an encore performance tonight at the theater. He told me that if I wanted to go he could get me a backstage pass again so that I could kick it with them again afterwards.
"All your friends already said yes," he said.
"Sure I'll go, what time is it?"
"Same time as last night. Look I have a few free hours of downtime, wanna kick it?" he asked me.
Did I, of course I did. "Of course, but where?"
"I was thinking the movie's and we could go to lunch."
"That's fine."
"Cool, so why don't we meet at City Walk around 1 in front of the escalators?"
I told him again that that was fine and he said he had to go. I told him goodbye and hung up the phone. Reality wasn't far from crashing on me. I HAD A DATE WITH AJ!! I jumped up and down on my bed for about a minute before I decided to call Shannah. She told me that she also had a date with Howie today. I hung up the phone laughing until I realized I had nothing to wear. I had clothes, but were they good enough. After an hour of searching I settled on a DKNY shirt, jeans, and a pair of blue, white and red DKNY shoes.
I put my hair in those little twists with the rubber bands on the end and let the rest hang loose. At 12:30 I stepped out the house and drove to Universal City. I fixed my hair and makeup and then headed onto City Walk. A.J. was not hard to find. He was wearing a white and black Dada hat with a matching shirt, black jeans, and matching shoes. We greeted each other with a hug and we began to walk towards the movie theaters.
He bought our tickets (what a gentleman) to see H20 (goody horror) and we went inside. The movie to me wasn't necessarily scary, but one part made me jump so badly that A.J. ended up taking my hand to calm me down. Whoa Nelly! The movie let out and we decided to go eat. I thought lunch would be kind of nerve racking, but A.J. was so much fun. We laughed and joked a lot and when these 2 teenage girls recognized him he graciously gave them autographs. After lunch we walked around City Walk (holding hands might I add) joking with each other.
I then noticed that the huge fountain that shot up water from the ground was off. I wondered when it would be turning back on. Never without my camera I told A.J. to stand over the fountain (he was clueless at my intentions) and pose. This would be the perfect picture. Just as I snapped the picture the fountains turned on and he was squirted with water. His Dada shirt was slightly wet as was his jeans, but other than that he was fine. I would never forget the look on his face when the water came on.
