Abby was still sitting in the middle of the road sobbing. She kept glancing her tear filled eyes down the street silently praying that she would see Brian's car coming back. She didn't want to lose the only man she ever truelly loved. If only Nick hadn't kissed her, if only she hadn't kissed him back Brian would still be there protecting her in the saftey of his arms.
Suddenly headlights of a car shined in her red, watery eyes. Abby looked up hopefully willing God to let the person be Brian. She noticed Howie climb quickly out of his car.
He ran over to her and kneeled down beside her. A wave of concern washed over his face as he noticed she was crying. "Oh my god, Abby what happened?" Howie noticed the shattered glass on the pavement from Brian's car window.
Abby sobbed and shook her head. "I've done something that has screwed up the rest of my life."
Howie put his arms around her and helped her stand up. "Let's go into the house." He left Abby sitting on the curb so he could move his car off of the road. Howie ran back over to Abby and helped her walk into the house. She had stopped sobbing and was now crying silent tears. Howie let her into the living room and sat her down on the couch. He sat on the coffee table directly across from her. "Abby try to calm down and tell me what happened."
Just then Nick came running into the living room with his cell phone in his hand. Howie glanced over at him.
"Howie, have you seen Sarah?" Nick asked frantically.
Howie looked from Nick to Abby. "Did something bad happen? Is someone hurt?"
Abby nodded her head. "Yeah someone is hurt. I just broke the hearts of my best friend and the man I love."
Nick quickly told Howie what happened.
Howie took a deep breath. "What we're you guys thinking?"
Abby began to cry again. Howie shook his head. "Come here." He held her as she cried. "Everything will turn out okay. You just have to give Brian time to cool off."
Nick put his hand on Abby's shoulder. "I am so sorry for all this Abby. I didn't mean to do what I did."
Abby wiped away her tears. "It's not just your fault Nick. I have to face the consequences of my actions." Tears ran down her face. "Even if it means losing Brian forever."
Nick looked painfully away at what he had caused. He shouldn't have kissed her and he shouldn't have let all this happen. "I'm going to find Sarah." He grabbed his car keys. "Howie stay with Abby."
MEANWHILE.....
Brian pulled his car to a stop at "Angel's Cove" it was a spot where everyone went to park that looked out over the ocean. Brian didn't know why he had driven up to this spot. He just went where the road was taking him. He sat silently in his car as tears welted up in his eyes. Brian leaned his head against the steering wheel and began to cry. He had left Abby screaming and crying his name in the middle of the street. It took every ounce of his being not to turn the car around and engulf her in his arms. He wanted to hold her and kiss her and tell her that everything would be alright. Brian hated it when she cried because it always melted him. Brian squeezed his eyes shut tightly willing himself to not hear her voice screaming his name. "Abby how could you do this to me?" He punched the steering wheel as tears cascated down his cheeks. "How could Nick do this to me?" Brian leaned into the backseat and pick up the engagement ring box. He held it in his hands. "How can I forgive her for breaking my heart?" Brian climbed out of the car and stood at the edge of the cliff. Somewhere down in the city he knew that other people were feeling the same pain that he was. He lifted the box over his head and was just about to throw it over....
"DON'T!" Came a voice from behind him.
Brian stopped before he let go of it and turned around at the familiar voice. "What do you want?"
Nick was standing there behind him. "You can't throw your love for her away."
Brian sneered at him. "Who the hell are you to tell me what I should and shouldn't do? You are a backstabber Nick." He pointed to his chest. "You're my best friend...I should say were. How can you and Abby do that to me? And to Sarah?"
Nick looked down in shame. "Brian I didn't mean what I did. Please don't hold it against Abby for something I did wrong. Please." He pointed down the road. "Abby is down at your house crying her eyes out. She loves you with all her heart. Please don't ruin everything because of something I did."
Brian's voice grew louder. "It takes two people to kiss Nick! She should have stopped you then if it was all your fault." Brian shook his head. "I'll never forget how you two looked laying there. I can never forgive you or her."
Brian lifted the ring box up in the air and threw it over the cliff. "It's over." He went to climb back into his car but Nick stood in his way.
"You're a damn fool if you are going to let Abby walk out of your life. And you know you'll regret it forever." Nick told him.
"You'll regret it if you don't get out of my damn way." Brian said in a quiet angry voice.
Nick moved away from the car and watched as Brian drove away.
