Aim: To show you some games I played off the bat and to see how good scores can be made with smart play even if the snap is a bit rough, and even if you get into some tight spots. Follow the notes provided to see the thinking behind it, and to see the aims involved in the putting. Also, use this to feel inadequate when you see my tremendous putting at BayHill hahaha....had to be, rest of my game sucked as you'll see !
There is nothing contrived about these rounds, I broke off from writing this to play the rounds, to illustrate some of the principles mentioned here. For the first round I played St.Andrews which is really a course where the driver is actually a good club to use as the fairways are wide and often you need to clear bunkers, so as a result I didnt lay up that much and use a stock shot, however if you follow the commentary while watching my recorded round ( and why not play along ) you'll see that at times my snap was horrible yet I still managed to shoot 55, or seventeen under par for 18 holes. I am sure by watching this and playing along you can shoot in the fifties. You'll also see how a bad snap, especially at Bay Hill in the breeze did not lead to a bad score, alright there are some good putts on there but even without those it would have been a good deal under par, and similarly with the wind, that round should have been sub-60 also. It's probably good for you to see that ( in my case! ) a great score is not a neverending procession of perfect snaps and hitting it close, although in no wind I was at the flag a lot , I had to chip and make some big putts in the tougher conditions...anyway, play along and have a look at the notes accompanying the rounds....it might be useful.
Download the RECORDED round files here
To play these rounds, put the REC files into your LS99 directory, then run Links and start a new game as though you were going to play the course in question, then when you have selected your player youll see a "show recorded players" box (bottom left)..tick this and scroll through the players and youll see my name " Bomber99 Practice"...click me in and start the game and there I'll be alongside you.
Round One Commentary ( St.Andrews ) no wind,normal,medium
A very nice round shot in 55 strokes and demonstrating perfectly that you dont necessarily need perfect snap to score well.
Round Two Commentary ( BayHill ) breezy,normal.medium
A very good putting display led me to a 56, sixteen under par and again demonstrating that bad snap doesnt have to mean bad score.
Round Three Commentary ( Entrada ) windy,normal,medium
A solid round in the wind, an eleven under 61, but as you'll see should have been 59 and could have been closer to 54!
Top Tips:
Do get into the habit of playing with these and your recorded rounds to learn from your past games, and to see how other people do it
Try my plan of making notes hole by hole, whether its a good or bad shot and learn from it
