In a recent Adrenaline Vault poll, our readers were asked, "Which 3D game do you look forward to?" Jedi Knight received the most votes, capturing 550 of the 1,792 votes cast. Quake II ran a close second garnering 537 votes, while all other games split the remaining 705 votes. So, for all the readers indicating that Jedi Knight is the most anticipated game of the latter portion of 1997, let's get one thing out of the way at the outset: Jedi Knight is more than worth the wait.
For the two of you out there who don't already know, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is the continuation of the story of Kyle Katarn, the young mercenary who infiltrated the Empire in the original Dark Forces. In this installment of the story, the evil Dark Jedi, Jerec, has murdered Kyle's father, Morgan Katarn. The most powerful of the seven Dark Jedi, Jerec is attempting to unlock the secrets of the hidden Jedi burial ground, which contains the Force energy of thousands of deceased Jedi Knights. Jerec could not get the information out of Kyle's father, who took the secret to his grave. That won't stop Jerec, and it is up to Kyle to avenge his father's death, and stop Jerec from making his evil plans come to fruition.
While pursuing this journey, the player of Jedi Knight will be faced with some very important choices. So important, in fact, that these choices will determine the "direction" that Kyle will take. You see, Jedi Knight is the first Star Wars game ever created in which The Force produces a "crossroads" of sorts for the player. The actions the player takes during gameplay will help to establish whether Kyle will turn to the Light Side or to the Dark Side of The Force
