To quote a famous Jedi, "There are alternatives to fighting." As evidence of that fact, Kyle's most powerful ally in Jedi Knight is The Force. As the player completes each of the over one dozen levels in the game he will earn Force Power Stars, which can be thought of as a reward for the experience the player obtained in that level. These stars can be assigned to the various Force Powers on the Force Power Allocation screen. The more stars allocated to a particular Force Power, the more effective that Power will be within the following level. In addition to four basic Force Abilities of Speed, Jump, Pull and Seeing, the Light Side and the Dark Side each have four Force Abilities of their very own. Light Side powers are Healing, Absorption, Blinding and Persuasion; Dark Side powers include Force Throw, The Grip, Lightning Bolts and Destruction. If you have seen Star Wars: A New Hope, you can imagine the effect several of these Powers will have on your adversary . The others are self-explanatory, and all are best "experienced" and not "described."

Another aspect of solo play is the existence of secret areas. At any time during a game, the player can pull up the Objectives screen which specifies the total number of secrets contained within the level, and the number remaining to be discovered by the player. This is, by far, the most challenging aspect of Jedi Knight, as it is not only convenient, but also quite necessary for the player to find these areas. In addition to containing certain "special" weapons and power-ups, the player earns more Force Power Stars at the end of each level if he can successfully find all the secret areas in that level.
