Private Forest Landowner Forestry Program Participation Behavior
Nagubadi, Venkatarao. 1995. Private Forest Landowner Forestry Program Participation Behavior. Purdue University. Major Professor: Kevin T. McNamara. 86p.
This study analyzed the program participation behavior of nonindustrial private forest (NIPF) landowners in the forestry assistance programs. The study used probit model on data collected from a sample of 329 landowners, comprising 124 classified program participants, 55 cost-share program participants, and 183 non-participants, drawn randomly from 72 counties in Indiana. The analysis revealed that the total land owned, commercial reasons for owning the woodland, government sources of information, and membership in forestry organizations, were influential factors in deciding the participation behavior of NIPF landowners. While age had positive impact, fear of loss of property rights and management options, and duration since the first wooded tract was acquired by the landowners negatively influenced program participation behavior in classified forestry programs. The landowner's residence being located in their wooded land, and landowner's knowledge and willingness about conservation easement influenced the participation behavior in cost-share programs positively.
