While still on the campaign trail, Presidential candidate and Senator Bob McCain was criticized for using the word "gooks" in reference to his North Vietnamese captors while he was a POW during the Vietnam War. Although he did not mean for it to be construed as a reference for Vietnamese Americans or Asian Americans it also does show lack of sensitivity for many potential Asian American voters. Asian Americans have indeed been marginalized by the Democratic National Party scandal over illegal campaign contributions and the anti-Asian backlash that followed that we do not need further harassment.
