SADLY SEEKING, SEEKING, SEEKING;
SEEKS AN ANSWER TO HER PLIGHT.
STARBORN WAIF, REACHING, REACHING
FOR COGNIZANCE THROUGH THE NIGHT;
WANTS TO LET THE EARTHBOUND BEINGS,
KNOW SHE'S THERE IN GLORY BRIGHT;
CROWDED IN 'MONGST STARLIGHT MYRIAD,
LOST AMONG THE TWINKLING HOSTS;
LONGING TO BE SEEN. "I'M HERE," SHE CRIES;
"I'M HERE" SHE PROUDLY BOASTS.
"WHAT MUST I DO FOR RECOGNITION?"
CRIES HER SOUL TO BLACKEST NIGHT;
"ALONE! ALONE!" AND OH, SO LONELY,
NONE TO SEE HER TEARS, HER PLIGHT.
"I KNOW!" I KNOW!" EXULTANT STREAMING,
STREAKS ACROSS THE WESTERN SKY;
THE EARTHBOUND SOUL, SEEING BRIEFLY,
PROCLAIMS THE GLORY PASSING BY.
"DID YOU SEE THAT?" THE EARTHLING QUERIED.
"WHAT?" RETURNED IN QUICK REPLY.
"A SHOOTING STAR, IN ALL ITS GLORY,
'GAINST THE BLACKENED STAR FILLED SKY."
AND FALLING, DOOMED AND LOST,
THE STARBORN WAIF DID SIGH WITH PLEASURE;
FIERY FINISH DID ENGULF HER,
IN HER ULTIMATE COGNIZANCE BEYOND MEASURE.
