MY PERSONAL POETRY

THE STRANGER

There was a time when I was part of the land...of the sea
I was the child of all who had come before in a land of mystery
And then one day to that land I became a stranger
To the islands of my birthright I belonged no longer

I grew up with my people all around me
But to them I was foreign and always would be
So to the big continent across the sea I went
To find myself and find out what being me meant

One day I found the truth of my native past
A story that finally was told, finally at last
As I researched for reasons that we were lost
I found the great tragedy to our Queen it had cost

We walked upon the land our ancestors had treasured
Only our time of belonging was surely measured
For the outsiders came with their greed and power
And to their treachery we eventually were to cower

Our Queen was put under house arrest
And her people's silence was truly a test
As she asked that they wait for honor to prevail
And once again their own flag they all would hale

But Congress was a pawn in the venture of greed
And the land that was stolen was not to be freed
So the natives were sent away from their homes
And their children had to leave and forever be alone

Now we wander the earth, no home to return to
Our time of redressing long past its due
And what was once our duty to protect
Is now being destroyed from long time neglect
