Object Treatments
Sometimes we take in interesting or unusual object for conservation.

This 19th century marionette suffered massive decay from
termites in the shoulder area causing the right arm to
separate from the body. After consolidation, we could then
reattach the arm to a new armature, clean the textile elements,
and inpainted the damaged surfaces of the object.

After reassembling the many shards of this plaster sculpture,
we could then fill and inpaint the missing areas, and create
an almost invisible repair. Everyone enjoys a jigsaw puzzle.

This musical note, composed of fragile particle board, is one of many
notes attached to an enormous metal fence surrounding Dennis
Oppenheim's "Still Life with Musical Cow." When it was damaged in transport,
all of the notes were broken at their join to the supporting fence. As one can see
in the middle panel, we constructed fitted wooden armatures and inserted
them into the broken pieces to impart greater structural support. After
reassembly and inpainting, one can see the treated object in the last
panel after it was mounted to its transport support with Velcro straps.
