The Band

King Friday started in November of 1995, at Providence College, in Providence, Rhode Island. Dave DeGasperis, Pat Collins, and Jess Prosser were the original members of the band. The three musicians developed an acoustic style of music playing original songs like "Fractured", "She Reads", and "Jack of Many Trades" (Lyrics written by Pat, music written by Pat, Dave and Jess). The band would also introduce some cover tunes to their repetoire. "Gloria" (Van Morrison) and "Dancing Nancies" (Dave Matthews Band) were songs that the band would play with there own acoustic tone and style. "Silent Bob" (Bobby Gardella) joined the band to play bass guitar over the summer of '96, the summer before the band's sophomore year at Providence. He added a more full sound and the enthusiasm that the band had been looking for. King Friday had changed names several times throughout this restructuring year from "The Curve" to "Sacrilicious" and finally, "51-Peg" which stuck for a while until it was decided to go back to the roots. King Friday was the name that would stay. The bands' three guitarists, Bobby (Mountainside, New Jersey), Dave (Rockland County, New York), and Pat (Parsippany, New Jersey) all live just outside the New England area. Jess, the drummer and mouth of the band lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is also a very creative writer whose poetry will soon be viewed through this site. The band uses a Peavy mixer with two 12 inch Peavy speakers, mainly for their vocals. Shure mics are the way to go. Dave uses an Ibanez Ice-Man guitar and a Crate 1/2 stack. Pat uses a Godin guitar and Crate amps. Bobby uses an Ibanez bass guitar and a Peavy cabinet with an Ampeg head (he is loud as $#!%). And Jess sits in the back with his MAPEX drum set (he is the loudest!).
