Four Years
Review
Over the past couple of years, the
Network has sponsored many events to advance our mission as a professional
and social resource for Louisiana natives and affiliates in the
DC Metro area. Just a sampling includes:
• “Fiyah on the Bayou” - Our first reception during
Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference at which
we honored Donna Brazile (Kenner, LA) Presidential Campaign Manager
of Gore 2000 and Alvin Biagas (Lake Charles, LA) Owner of AV Services
in Washington, DC. (see photo gallery).
• Mardi Gras Parties—Zanzibar on the Waterfront has
become a favorite host for events of the Network. For three years
running, co-owner Michele Bailey (Dillard U. Alumni) has been extremely
gracious in lending the club as a venue for our Fat Tuesday celebrations.
• New Orleans Bounce Party—This gathering of home-folk
exclusively featured our “home-grown” bounce must that
put New Orleans on the national music scene.
• Homeownership Campaigns— A seminar was held at HomeFreeUSA
and Eric Kennedy organized a mortgage lending campaign.
•
• Political Fundraisers—Tanya Callaway, Executive Board
Member, hosted a fundraiser last Fall for Senator Mary Landrieu
(D-LA) during her 2002 re-election bid.
• GOTV Campaign—the Network’s political committee
organized a “Get Out the Vote Campaign” during Louisiana’s
2002 election season to encourage family members at home to exercise
their right to chose their elected leadership.
• Meet and Greet Socials—several socials have been organized
as a venue of fellowship for Network members. Previous socials have
been held at Bohemian Caverns and the Sky Club at Zanzibar
Fellowships—Network members have extended hospitality to those
on the list serve by hosting various gatherings within their homes
such as sports gatherings, house parties, and seafood boils.
