Coldplay guitarist Jon Buckland said he doesn't get stage fright - unless people in the audience start throwing things, that is.
"I'm terrified if they're armed with bottles and coins and mobile phones," Buckland told AP Radio, laughing. "That's quite scary." Sometimes the danger comes from the stage itself. Bassist Guy Berryman said that during one show, lights that were being lowered from the ceiling for an effect hit him on the head.
"They weren't heavy, but it was just mildly embarrassing," Berryman said. "At least people can't see the redness in your face on the stage, anyway, so it was all right."

British balladeers Coldplay, whose poignant songs have garnered larger audiences in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, are nearly finished recording their second album.
The band has written more than 20 new songs for the as-yet-untitled album, which the group said will hit stores in June.
"We started recording the week after September 11, which gave us a fresh perspective," singer Chris Martin said recently. "The new songs are reflective of new attitudes. [They tell listeners] not to be frightened. Anybody can achieve whatever they want to."
Coldplay played some of the new material on their various tours throughout the year, but the songs don't have permanent titles yet, Martin said.
Released more than a year ago, the band's debut, Parachutes, is still picking up steam. The nearly platinum album sold 16,400 copies last week, up about 3,000 from the week before. "Trouble," the LP's third single, has proven nearly as successful as the band's breakthrough hit, "Yellow" (see "Coldplay Escapes City For 'Yellow' Single, Video").
"We thought it was a great song, but not a single," Martin said. "We never thought it'd play in America. It's not exactly Korn. It's saved us from being a one-hit wonder."
Coldplay recently released a limited-edition CD with a remix of "Yellow" and the holiday classic "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," but don't count on buying it at your local record store. Only 1,000 copies were issued to fans and journalists.
Martin said the next Coldplay single will be from their new album and won't hit radio until spring. "It's called 'Yellow Part Two,' " he joked.
The band just returned to a London recording studio after playing a few holiday shows in America, including the KROQ-FM Almost Acoustic Christmas show in Los Angeles.
"We get slightly frightened [at Christmas shows]," Martin said. "We just played with System of a Down and Nickelback. We relish challenges, but it's not the best place to play piano ballads."

COLDPLAY have released an ultra-limited edition Christmas present to fans - a CD featuring the classic 'HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS'.
The two track promo, titled 'Mince Spies', is strictly limited to 1000 copies and has been distributed to fans and journalists across the country.
In addition to the Yuletide classic, written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, and sung by the likes of Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby and Perry Como, the CD also features a remix of the group's biggest hit 'Yellow' by Alpha.
The group also gave their fans a message on the back of the CD, which reads: "Hello and Happy Christmas from us. We're in the studio at the moment but for now here's something for you that you might not have heard. This (CD) is one of only a thousand copies. Have a very merry Christmas and a happy 2002! With love from Guy, Will, Jonny and Chris."
The CD is not likely to be released commercially.

Coldplay have won two prizes at the My VH1 Awards in Los Angeles yesterday.
The quartet were honoured for their international achievements with the Big in Japan prize and the Best Kept Secret award.
The event was overshadowed by the death of George Harrison from cancer on Thursday, with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora opening the event with a rendition of one of the songs he wrote for the Beatles, Here Comes The Sun. The Dave Matthews Band were the big winners of the night, walking off with four awards, including best album for Everyday.

Nothing to do with Coldplay but I ended up going to the Top of the Pops Awards at the MEN Arena in Manchester. You can see a review of the night here. Good news if you are a Travis, J-Lo or Kylie fan!

COLDPLAY played an impromptu 90-minute acoustic set at a North London pub on Friday November 23 before jetting off for their American tour on the following Sunday.
The gig at The Shepherd's Pub in Highgate was so secret, according to a spokesman for the band's record label, Parlophone, that no-one at the record company knew about it until after it had happened.
The band played as a trio due to bassist Guy Berryman crying off with a cold. Introduced by their actor friend Simon Pegg, they played old songs including 'Trouble', 'Don't Panic', 'Parachutes', and new song 'In My Place'. Thanks to some unusual requests, Coldplay covered 80s soft rock anthems 'Livin' On A Prayer' by Bon Jovi and 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns N'Roses. They also covered Sex Pistols' 'Pretty Vacant', T-Rex's '20th Century Boy' and Nancy Sinatra's Bond theme, 'You Only Live Twice'.
After playing on a makeshift stage, Coldplay asked drinkers at the packed pub to donate to the local Whittington Hospital, the birthplace of guitarist Jonny Buckland, raising £300.
