Hexamethylene triperoxide diamine
Safety

Basic Facts Qualities Manufacture Safety
Sensetivity
Impact sensitivity 0.06 NM
Friction sensitivity 0.01 N
Oxygen balance -92.2%
HMTD is, compared with Tricykloacetonperoxide, ten times less fricton sensetive, five times less impact sensetive, and 1/3 more powerfull. It is several times less impact sensetive than mercury fulminate.

If you drop it, most likely, nothing will happen. But you shouldn't try. It is extremely flamable. Do not use any sort of fire in its surroundings.

Manufacture safety

The temperature in the mixture must not raise over 30 C. If the temperature exceeds 30 C, a dangerous reaction will occur, in wich all the hexamethylenetetramine will melt and disintegrate. There is a chance that the formed HMTD will explode. Watch the reaction, and cool in an icebath.

When scraping the funnel paper, be carefull. Scrapes with tools can be dangerous. Do not use any tools made of glass, plastic, metal, or any other material that produces sparks, or statistical electricity. Simply scrape it up with some paper.

Do not produce large quantities, and not more than neccesary.

Reactivity with other chemicals

HMTD oxidizes metals it comes across, especialy copper and its alloys. Sinse HMTD is so sensetive against metals, no metal tools can be used in the manufacturing.

Aluminum seems to resist the reaktion with HMTD, because of its layer of aluminum oxide. But do not use aluminum tools or containers, as this is still risky.

Storage

Do not store HMTD longer than a week, and make sure it stays in a cool dark and dry inviroment. Only use containers made out of glass, wood and plastic. Do not use metal containers.
