The Doom It Yourself
Project Gallery

Project 1~ marbelized candlesticks
This was relatively easy. I found the candlesticks at a discount store for $5 each (I have 2). They are wooden and about 2 and a half feet tall. They were painted a horrid aqua when I bought them and were covered in dust. I got them home and cleaned them up and used a marbelizing kit over a black base coat. This was my first
marbelizing project, and honestly, I now just use regular acrylic craft paint, but the kit helped me get my technique down. After marbelizing them I thought they needed some additional "jazzing up" to bring out the carved details, so I silver leafed some of the sections.
The look I was going for was that they were made up of marble sections separated by silver pieces.  Basically, I wanted them to look like they had come out of a church or a cathedral.

Project 2~ "Stone" Cherub
This was another easy one. I had had the plaster cherub for quite a few years and he was
beginning to look a bit grubby. I dusted him off and painted him using a granite type textured spray paint. (easily gotten at any Walmart) I
wasn't really thrilled by how the granite paint looked, so I misted over it lightly with silver spray paint once the granite stuff was dry. I sealed the whole thing with a clearcoat, and there you have it!

Project 3 ~ "Lace" Furniture
This one was painfully easy!
I painted some mis-matched and somewhat beaten up pieces of wooden furniture black using a high-gloss spray paint. (This is my telephone stand, that I had previously painted burgundy.) Trying to jazz up the tops a bit, I used an old piece of cheap stiff lace as a stencil.
I simply taped the lace to the top of each piece and sprayed silver spray paint through the fabric. Since the spray paint blows the fabric up a bit, the "image" is slightly blurred.
I think it looks rather spiffy!
