The hamsters were found twice, for the first time zoologist Waterhouse describe one of them, but his finding feel into oblivion and the hunted specimen lay in the British Museum almost hundred years whithout remark. Not untill in 1930 when professor Aharoni took 8 young of hamster towards Aleppa at Near east, whih it was identified with Waterhouses finding. They were auburn on the bak, this colour made up even stripe on the chest. The abdomen was lighter with touch to grey, the animals had the oblong deep stripe on the necking. This „wild“ coloration was later marked as aguti or golden. All hamsters around the world are their sib. There are also a large number of hamsters mutations. As the first mutation, which was founded in 1947, was panda with white blotch. It was ruby-eyed cream in 1948, cream-coloured with red eyes, and mottled-white, whih is ussually hard to keep in the breedings, because it is the lethal mutation latent to gender. There are also hairless or else long-hair (e.g. Silver blue with soft griseous hair and so-called teddy-bear – they are all black and taupe with white shame below chin and with cirle round the eye, and they are very large. The long-hair hamsters are called Angora. The hamsters breed during all year. Their gravidity last 15-17 days, but mostly 16. The number of young is related to the females age and also on subbreed. Ussually is from 4-12, but 16 isnt rare, and sometimes even 20 young. The female has mostly 7-8 litters yearly. The young are given hairless, sightless, edentate, with close voice pipe, by weight about 2 grams. They eat solid feed already at the age of 5-8 days, their eyes open in 14 days and they are put aside between the 21st and 26th day. We use young for breeding at 3-6 months of their age, when they are enough physial advanced. The impotene gets on between the 11st and the 19th month for females and it is little longer for males. They live 2-4 years. We breed them in the plastic or glass boxes with minimal size 30x40 cm. A box without cover should be at least 40 cm high, because the hamsters can jump very well. But hese boxes has bad air-circulation, so it isnt too suitable. The hamsters are mainly herbivorous, but they claim an animal part in their bill of fare. We breed them firstly with fresh fruits, vegetables, green-feed and corn. We count about 15 grams of corn to a hamster each day. We variegate them the feed with a boiled or a raw meat, eggs, tender bones, insects, a curd or yeast twice a week. We use sawdust or shaving as their beding in the boxes.
