My Mum told me there was nothing special when I was born. No rising of my star in the East. No kings came to honor my birth. 25th October is my birthday. I did try to find on books to see if anything happen on that day which affect the human being significantly. 1400: Death of Geoffrey Chaucer(1340-1400). Salute! 1671: Giovanni Cassini discovered Iapetus, one of Saturn's moons. 1958: The first annual meeting of the Wyoming Psychological Association was held. Very meaningful, indeed. 1965: The song "Yesterday" from the Beatles topped the chart. Thank you, John and Paul. :) 1983: 2,000 U.S. Marines invaded Grenada to take control away from the Soviet-Cubans. A political coup just one week earlier had made the tiny Caribbean Island a Soviet-Cuban colony. Umm... the celebration is perhaps going too far... My weight was about 7lb when I was born. I say "about" because Mum forgot that. Little memories remain about my childhood. The first twelve years have gone in a way that I cannot even remember what exactly happened. Like the one of Jesus. All I know is I was sent into the kindergarten and then primary school. Even in the first few years of my secondary school life I was just like a loggerhead. Knowing nothing but pretend to know everything. But at the same time I found my interests in every fields. From medicine to myths, from literature to liberal studies. And the interests persuaded me to spend hours to study them everyday. It brought an irreparable effect on my school studies. Finally when I was in Form 5, the Public Examination results forced me to repeat Form 5 studies one more year. I was able to go through the same examination in the following year. The partake in the Student Union Election and the arrival of my 18 in age turned me into a brand new man. Those who know me well would definitely feel the difference. In his autobiography, Bertrand Russell wrote: Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. These passions, like great winds, have blown me hither and thither, in a wayward course, over a deep ocean of anguish, reaching to the very verge of despair. These three passions have governed my life as well. And they have not changed. Though still seems a long way to go in my life, I am glad that I am able to join this game. Thanks to my Mum and Dad for letting me in. It is always a nice place to live, and a great feeling to turn challenges into improvement. ¡@ |
