November

Fasting Month

For the second time this year we are fasting again. Wishing you all "Selamat Berpuasa".

Flash Flood

25 Nov - The College was hit by a flash flood. Salute to all Squadron members for your quick response to the situation (students included), not forgetting those who were actually on course, on leave and "posted out".... Well Done!

Class Of 2000 End Of Course (Aerotiga) Night And Boss's Farewell Dinner

Congratulation Knights! (you too Hisham). And Boss, all the best on your new appointment. The usual compliments followed.... good food, good sketches and speeches. Ramlan, I really hope your short story is not a true story!

Farewell To The Boss

The cycle goes on and on...... "Where It All Started". You may want to agree with me; people have come and go, come and go, come and go... Your time has come again sir and the question is, Who's next? But, as we have always talked about, we will never forget this place no matter what. It is not as easy as an ON/OFF switch to just got posted in and out without any sentimental feeling of our tour here no matter how short it was. Farewell to you and it was an honour to serve under you. To the new boss, Welcome sir, hope we can have some glorious and wonderful moment which we can cherish in the future.

October

Shooting Competency

Well done Amin for being the best shooter and Syed (and the gang) for successfully organising the event. Bang! Hey where did I put that ear plug?

September

Izwan's Promotion

It was indeed long over due, we were waiting for the treat that goes with it and finally got it. Congratulations!

PTU's Visit

Firstly we have the parade,  then the visits or maybe inspections for some, lunch with the Airmen and tea with the NCO. This was followed by the usual "Malam Mesra Ria". The next day, visits to the left-overs and finally some sport activities. And this year, suddenly, we have the "Hollow Man"!

Family Trips

Yupp... you are right there, you are not having double vision, there is an "s", meaning "trips" Well... after all these major events we have decided that we deserved a reward or two, a break that is. Where shall that be, Nort, South, East or West? Okay then, see you guys later.

August

Commissioning Parade Class Of 2000

10 Aug, will see yet another parade; still by the King and still for the cadets.

Merdeka Day

31 Aug, was held in Shah Alam. Accomodation for us was at the Concorde Hotel. Well, it was not so much of the hotel or even the flypass but I should say it was the get-together that counts. With pilots from the MiGs, 18s, Hawks and of course the Riders; there were a lot of joyous moments indeed which ones could not help from remembering the Korats days. Also worth mentioning was the spirit of the ex-RMAF and the ex-Squadron mates. Among those sighted were Omar Baki, Zam Zam, Azrin Ng, Saadon, Ackbal, Mutalib and a few others. Some came just to say hello and best of all was the offer to use their cars. Thank you guys! The detachment? hmmm... there were some slips here and there, flypass? well... not bad, because I have not heard anything which is still being talk until today and, the celebrations? I did give a scare to the security personnels stationed at the VVIP floor of the hotel. There I was, suddenly appeared from the elevator and  telling them that I wanted to go to the roof top. "Roof top, for what?", "To watch the fireworks display of course!". "Huh????". After a moment of stand-off, I said "Nahhh.. forget it". At least someone is still serious about security.

July

Gallery

A lot of new photo collections have been added, among them are Course Photo (right from the good old days), the RMAF Pilatus PC-7 (which used to be in other Air Forces' marking) and under a new heading of "Training Activities". Additional photos have also been added under the already available headings.

Sport Carnival

Sort of a mini sport carnival was held between Pulatibang 1 and AIROD at the Officers Mess. Among the games involved were sepak takraw, volleyball and ping-pong. At night there was a barbecue dinner, after which the duel continued with carrom, dart and snooker.

June

Dinghy Drill

Held at UUM's pool. Currency, currency, currency....... and life goes on.

Promotion Day

Congratulations to Izani, Hakimi, Saiful and Zoul on being promoted to the rank of Major.

May

First Solo "Knight" Class of 2000

Event was held on 24 May after the last student had gone for his first solo flight. The sketches by the course were just great with some "over" but the absence of the other halves and the kids some how or rather did affect the liveliness of the night. Snapshots are available at the "Gallery".

Robinson Crusoe Lives On

Puncak Janing on 26 - 28 May. It was quite an experience to be back to the nature especially when it was a wet outing. Leeches were everywhere and some city boys were seen jumping here and there. Glimpse of dome tents, air mattress and some luxuries were also spotted.... ehem.

"King For A Day"

Congratulations to Aca and "Suzy", thanks for the invitation.

April

Thousand Appologies

Hmmm....here we are again after a very long silence. So lets see what we have missed. Yup, greetings! Happy New Year, Selamat Berpuasa, Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, Gong Xi Fa Chai, Awal Muharram and the rest of the occasions but most of all I hope you have been wiser in celebrating compared to the previous years.

I really hope I will be able to keep you guys posted on the latest update in Alor Setar and anything aviation but would appreciate a lot if you could contribute by submitting anything or to the very least spread this Page so that the "I Was Here" could be updated. I wish to extend my gratitude to Salan for supplying me with most of the photos reproduced throughout the pages. On the drawing board is the Course photo which have already being scanned. Once they are up, they need to be identified, mind you we are talking about Course 01, 02 and so on. Bakar (MAS) thanks for the offer to send the Taming Sari photos, anytime will be the best time. Later, we will try to go E-Commerce... hah hah hah, we will pool all the various Squadrons' souvenirs and people can buy online. We will start with Pulatibang 1's souvenirs first and work out with other Squadrons later. Howzat? Any other suggestions would be goodies.

Hollywood Was In Town!

Not really...... it was our great modelling agency, I mean local production house - Skop Production. They were here on 20 Apr 2000 and left on 23 Apr 2000. The actors and actresses are familiar faces around, asked me who and frankly I would say sorry I don't know their names. Anyway, I have to be their local consultant as far as the plot was concerned. Definitely we don't want another Wira Angkasa right. So don't worry guys they were shot with the best realism that you would want to see. The Director wanted to take a scene where the students (real actors) and instructors would be walking towards their respective aircraft ala Thunderbird Aerobatic Team. And I said, "Purhhhhhleeez.......! Get real" It got my hair standing. Anyway just to keep you in the picture, this a 24-episodes drama for TV3 about the Air Force. They said that Yusof Haslam is good at making this kind of drama as can be seen in Gerak Khas and what not, so they say. Well guys, I have a Forum Board at the "Articles" page, gentlemen start your engine I mean start your debate. Lastly, feel free to take a peek at the set.

Wing Parade for Class Of '99

24 Apr 2000 was the date for the auspicious occasion. The award for the best academic and flyer went to Afizan, best aerobatics to Alfan and best over all to Kushairi. All awards and wings were given away by the Defence Minister YB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib. Click here to view the Wing Ceremony Booklet (heavy graphics) and some snapshots of the family lunch.

Wing Nite for Class Of '99

In conjuction with this event, a celebration dinner (Mess Kit!) was held at Holiday Villa, Alor Setar (again) on top of all the superb foul-up that the hotel is famous for. The last dinner here (Graduation Dinner if I'm not mistaken) was a classic.... When steak was served I was having a tough time with the tough steak, especially when given a "butter knife" to face the ordeal. So in order to have a fair battle, I told the waiter to get me a real steak knife instead of that "butter knife". Like a loyal squire to his knight he disappeared after listening attentively to my instructions. And in a flash he returned with a wide grin on his face. Walking galantly towards me with the trust that I will finish off the job, he handed me the desired weapon....... "Here you are me Lord, your butter!" He was carrying the butter in his hand not even in a plate.

Well, this time around, the Hotel in living up to it's name serve us minute steak in a form of a burger patte and provided us with a baby-sitter room almost equivalent to a refugees camp. The chicken chop? They were first boiled to make them tender I guess, but leaving not even a single drop of the juice to be savoured as chicken chop. I think they must have sent the rest of the juice to Nestle (MAGGI) for chicken stock production. I will not elaborate further on this but will leave it for all readers to ponder. Will they ever improve and will we ever learn?! In addition to the nite a birthday celebration was also held for Yazid and Nazlan ..... Happy Birthday Boys! And, Best Wishes to all of you.

Officers Mess Treasure Hunt/Family Day

Event was held on 10 and 11 Jul 99. Participants were flagged-off at the Officers Mess with the finishing line at Pantai Merdeka. There were almost 40 cars registered for the Treasure Hunt. Tarik TaliAfter lunch, the event that followed was the Family Day Telematch with the "Tarik Tali" as the closing event (anybody for "Tolak Tali"?, not my idea anyway, overheard it from within the crowd on that day). After the barbecue dinner (mmmm... 'dap), it was the prize giving ceremony. Most of the events were won by the Pulatibang 1's officers or their family member. The Grand Prize for the treasure Hunt was won by Romlee and the First Prize went to.......who else...Yours Truly. The rest of the prizes were won by Vibun, Salan, Syed Zul and others. Anyway, credit should also be given to the event organizer.....Izani, Amin and the gang for the Treasure Hunt, Norazan and the gang from Pulatibang 2 for the Family Day's telematch and Rozze and the gang for the superb dinner. What about the PMC and Mess Sect for advising and pushing all of them...heheheheh.

Students' Crew Room

Guess what....the crew room was given yet another face lift over the last weekend of 17/18 Jul 99! Pink karrer....
