Frank Smith was offered a French
table dish by friends who had just
returned from a trip to Paris. Back
in 1910 the though of thinly sliced
potatoes cooked in oil was a
rather specialised taste. Frank
thought of an idea of mass
producing them and having set up
a cooking place, he tried to sell
them around London. No one
knew what they were? Sales were
terrible! But he persisted and put
10,000 of his own moneyin 1920
into a brand new factory. His
salesmen had to hard sell the
product, but in time sales
boomed. Now these CRISPS are a
household name in the UK -
WALKERS CRISPS.

Louis Paul followed his fathers
ideas to establish a watch making
company in Bienne, Switzerland,
with his brother Cesar in 1877.
Five years later they introduced a
lever assembly with a precision of
30 seconds per day. In 1889 they
produced 100,000 watches per
year. In 1894 the company banker
Henri Rieckel suggested a name
from the bible for their company
from Alpha and Omega, the first
and the last, the beginning and the
end.So started the famous watch
manufacturer of today -
OMEGA watches. Worn by the
first man on the moon Neil
Armstrong. Awarded the Snoopy
award by NASA - its highest
distinction in 1969.
