Lesson Plan  – Day 1

 

 

 

 

Objectives:

 

Students will:

            Understand basic structure of Glencoe Accounting:  Electronic Learning Center

            Understand basic structure of Peachtree Accounting

            Understand and apply recording transactions in a computerized general journal

            Become familiar with Peachtree Accounting Program

 

Materials Needed:

 

Teacher:  calculator, pen, pencil, chalk, chalkboard, eraser, overhead computer projector, computer, appropriate software (installed and necessary discs or network passwords), text, working papers, copies of Problem 6-4, attendance sheet, grade book, and seating chart.

 

Student:  pencil, textbook, work papers, notebook, accounting folder, and password(s).

 

Procedure:

 

1.  Attendance: (2 minutes)

           

¨Reference seating chart

            ¨Mark attendance sheet and/or mark attendance in database

 

2.  Introduction to Glencoe Computerized Accounting: (40 minutes)

           

Topics

¨Overview of computers in accounting – variety and styles.  Broaden definitions of computer and explore electronic backbone of finance.

 

¨Overview of Glencoe Real-World Applications and Connections and Electronic Learning Center.

Students will:

            Understand the Task menu in Peachtree Accounting

            Practice applying and recording transactions in a computerized general journal

            Be able to print a General Journal Report

 

Materials Needed:

 

Teacher:  calculator, pen, pencil, chalk, chalkboard, eraser, overhead computer projector, computer, appropriate software (installed and necessary discs or network passwords), text, working papers, copies of Problem 6-8, attendance sheet, grade book, and seating chart.

 

Student:  pencil, textbook, work papers, Problem 6-4 handout, notebook, accounting folder, and password(s).

 

Procedure:

 

1.  Attendance: (2 minutes)

2.  Review of Monday’s Lesson (10 minutes)

 

♦Briefly review both Educational Learning Center and Introduction to Peachtree Accounting

♦Have two or three students show class how to find quizzes, play the games, find the glossary, etc.

 

  1. Completion of Problem 6-4 in Class (20 minutes)

 

♦Print results and hand it

 

4.  Student Demonstration of Problem on Overhead Computer (10 minutes)

 

            ♦Ask for volunteers

            Be able to analyze source documents and create general journal entries from them

            Be able to analyze expenses and revenues from source documents

 

Materials Needed:

 

Teacher:  calculator, pen, pencil, chalk, chalkboard, eraser, overhead computer projector, computer, appropriate software (installed and necessary discs or network passwords), text, working papers, copies of Chapter 6 Review, corrected Problem 6-4 homework, attendance sheet, grade book, and seating chart.

 

Student:  pencil, textbook, work papers, Problem 6-8 handout, notebook, accounting folder, and password(s).

 

Procedure:

 

1.  Attendance: (2 minutes)

           

¨Reference seating chart

            ¨Mark attendance sheet and/or mark attendance in database

 

2.  Review: (10 minutes)                       

           

♦Hand back corrected Problem 6-4 homework

♦Problem 6-4 Correct Answers

3.  In-Class Work (20 minutes)

4.  Student Demonstration of Problem 6-8 on Overhead Computer (10 minutes)

           

♦Select students who did not do problems on Tuesday

♦Work to be done as homework or in class following day.  The students have a choice of using the paper review and the computer review, or paper only.

2.  Test:  (48 minutes)

 

            ♦Hand out test

            ♦Open-book.  May use book and completed problems (not completed Review)

♦Students can work on computers after they hand their tests in – if they’re quiet
