Objectives:
Students should be able to describe the capabilities
of Automated Accounting 7.0 including general ledger, accounts payable,
accounts receivable, financial statement analysis processing, bank
reconciliation, plant assets, order processing, inventory, and payroll.
Students will demonstrate navigation of the menu
items of Automated Accounting 7.0
Lesson Sequence:
1.
Discuss automation of everyday tasks. Word processing, touchtone
telephones, etc. connect with the automation of the accounting process
(5-10 min)
2.
Demonstrate with overhead projector how to launch Automated
Accounting. Show students how to select a data file and log in. Be sure to
show students how the program will not bring up a full screen, but will
wait for the next command. (5 min)
3.
Demonstrate how to navigate the tool bar and window tabs. Hold the
mouse pointer over each item several times to show students how to receive
a short explanation of each item. (5min)
4.
Guided practice. Have each student launch
Automated Accounting, log in, and open a data file. (10 min)
5.
Demonstrate the save, save as, and exit buttons on the menu bar.
Explain the difference between save and save as. Also remind students of
the importance of saving their work often. (5-10 min)
6.
Guided practice. Have students use save as to name and save their
open file. Then have the students exit the program.
(5 min)
7.
Independent practice. Have students launch Automated Accounting
again, log in, and find the file they saved. When they find the file, have
them exit and log out. (5 min)
Day two

Objectives:
Students will demonstrate navigation of the menu
items of Automated Accounting 7.0
Students will access and use Automated Accounting
tools (help menu, on-screen calculator, and college planner)
Lesson Sequence:
1.
Review day one with students launching Automated Accounting,
logging in, and accessing the tutorial data file (aa01-t). circulate and
give guidance to students who have difficulty (5 min)
2.
Using overhead projector, demonstrate how to access the Data menu,
and within that menu, the college planner. Point out that the college
planner can be used for calculating annual contributions needed to fund
college education, and that students can enter data that resembles their
situation. Next access the savings planner and point out to students the
savings planner can be used to project an amount of savings based on given
interest rate and principal contribution. (10 min)
3.
Guided practice. Have students access the Data menu and the college
planner. Have them complete the guided practice exercise monitoring their
progress and checking their answers. (10 min)
4.
Guided practice. Have students access the savings planner in the
data menu. Have them complete the guided practice exercise monitoring
their progress and checking their answers. (10 min)
5.
Demonstrate the access to the onscreen calculator. Have students
work through the multiplication table getting to know the calculator.
Remind the * is the symbol for multiplication. Have students use 100 as a
base and practice subtracting and adding whole numbers to get a feel for
the calculator’s possibilities (10 min)
6.
Have students log out and close Automated Accounting
Day Three
Materials Needed:
Seating chart
Attendance Sheet
Student computer stations
Automated Accounting Software
Automated Accounting text
Teacher computer with overhead projector
Objectives:
Students will demonstrate navigation of the menu
items of Automated Accounting 7.0
Students will access and use Automated Accounting
reports, and copy to spreadsheet or word processing software
Lesson Sequence:
1.
Using overhead projector, demonstrate how to access the reports in
Automated Accounting. Point out the different choices and how to select a
report. Choose and display the trial balance. (5min)
2.
Guided practice. Have students launch Automated Accounting and
Excel. Accessing the Tutorial file, have students access the trial
balance, copy, and paste into the excel spreadsheet. Monitor and assist
students as they perform this. (10 min)
3.
Independent practice/assessment. Have students complete tutorial
problem 1-t (30 min)
