Mario's twin brother is Luigi.
Luigi has starred in many games along with Mario, since the original Mario Bros. came out.
Back then, Luigi was no different from Mario, except that he wore a green undershirt instead of a red one like Mario did. Later on though, Luigi was given certain features that would distinct him from his twin brother Mario. Luigi was made taller than Mario, and had the ability to jump higher than him. He was also a little bit skinnier than Mario was.
Luigi hasn't starred in many games without Mario there though. The only one I can think of is Mario Is Missing, in which Mario is kidnapped by Bowser and you play as Luigi throughout the whole game, trying to find Mario.
Most two player Mario games, have Mario as the first player, and Luigi as the second. There are many games that star Mario without Luigi though.
As you can tell, Mario and Luigi aren't identical twins, but they are twins non the less. Even though Mairo and Luigi star in most games together, he will most likely always be over shadowed by his older brother Mario.
