Yoshi is one of the newest Mario Bros. characters.
He has been with Mario, ever since his debut in Super Mario World for the SNES.
Yoshi is a green dinosaur, with a very long tongue, that Mario has been able to ride in many Mario Bros. games. Using Yoshi, Mario is able to defeat enemies he wouldn't normally be able to defeat.
Yoshi can have different powers depending on what koopas' or special items he eats. If he eats a green koopa shell, he can spit it back out at the enemy. If he eats a red one, he can spit out fire. If he eats a blue one, he grows wings and can fly. And if he eats a yellow one, he can pound the ground by jumping on it, releasing a puff of white smoke that can destroy nearby enemies.
Yoshi has also had other special items that grant him certain powers as well as Koopa shells. Such as watermelons, and fruits.
When eating certain enemies, he can turn them into eggs. He can then use the eggs as weapons against the many enemies he will have to face during his adventures.
Yoshi is only one of many other Yoshis' that hail from a island known as Yoshi's Island. On Yoshi's Island are many Yoshi's of many different colors. There are red, blue, yellow, pink, brown, purple, gray, and even black and white Yoshis'.
Yoshi, Mario's buddy, is always the green one.
Unlike most other Super Mario Bros. characters, Yoshi has starred in many games of his own, as well as made many appearences in other Mario games.

Yoshi has co-starred or made appearences in many other Mario games as well as the ones listed above. In games such as Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Golf, Mario Party, Mario Party 2, and Super Mario RPG.
I think Yoshi will continue to star in many games along with Mario, as well as in many games of his own. For Yoshi is one of the most beloved characters of the video game universe.
