EMPTY QUARTER EXPEDITIONS
Come with us on a desert expedition to the fabled Rub al Khali. A direct translation of the name means "The Empty Quarter". One of the largest expanses of sand in the world, where temperatures soar to over 50 degrees centigrade (130 Fahrenheit) in the summer. At first it appears to be a desolate waste of towering sand dunes and simmering salt flats, but even here life can be found. From the poisonous snakes and scorpions to the gazelles and oryx that call this place home, there is much to be seen. No trip is ever the same and when you finally drive to the top of Jebal Hafit and look back over the 200 kilometers of sand you have crossed, you will possess memories that will stay with you forever. No picture can ever convey the beauty of the rising sun in the morning or the deep bass sound of the singing sands as you drive your vehicle 300 meters down a 30 degree sand slope. No one has ever returned from one of these trips unchanged. Each time I go there I learn something new about myself. Our basic trip is three days, however, we can make it shorter or longer to suit your convenience. The shorter trips take place entirely in the Empty Quarter, while the longer trips take in more of the Emirates, including the Empty Quarter, the Hajar Mountains and a pleasant overnight stay at Salim's Farm, an exotic working farm located at the foot of the Hajar Mountains. All trips include vehicles, all meals while on the expedition, camping equipment, experienced instructor guides and driving instruction. All you require is an international driving license, some clothes, plenty of film and an enjoyment of vast open spaces. Click on the link below to view some pictures of various trips. Check back often as we are constantly updating the site with new trips and pictures. For more information, or to book a trip, email, fax or call us. |
