Welcome to the japanese music page. As I told you before, I have an extremely versatile taste in music, meaning I will listen to practically anything and everything I can get my hands on. I have no inhibitions about what I listen to, which is how I got to be such a fan of J-pop and anime music, even though at the time I didn't speak the language at all. I think that music is a very important thing in our lives, and not something that should be taken for granted. We should all take care of our hearing, because we'd never realize how much we miss something until it's gone for good. My point is that just because something is there now, doesn't mean it will always be. So if you love music as much as I do, take care of yourself so you can enjoy it for the remainder of your life. Anyway, enough with the melancholy shit....on with the show!!!!
Japanese (Contemporary) Music: this is the music that started my obsession with Asian music. I think it is so good, my favourite group being T.M. Revolution, or TMR for short. Fronted by lead singer Takanori Nishikawa, TMR is truly j-pop at its best. Right now I'm waiting for a special order of their latest album "Triple Joker" although their latest single "Hot Limit" is not on it. *Update, I got Triple Joker some time ago, and their latest single is "Thunderbird"* The picture on the left is an anime picture of Takanori, from the cover of "Hot Limit". Now I don't know too much about him, but I believe one magazine said he was known as a "Sexy Male Superstar". EWWWW, IMO he looks like your basic fem-boy. I actually thought he was gay, until one of my Japanese-class T.A.'s said his girlfriend was one of the lead singers of "Puffy", this female j-pop duo. The thing is, in Japan, right now the trend is for men to look like fem-boys, hence the make-up they wear and all those gay-stick poses you usually see in Japanese magazines. My personal favourite song by TMR is "Heart-Of-Sword" from Rurouni Kenshin. If you want the lyrics to this song, visit my KEN-SAMA, aishiteru!!! shrine to Ruroken, or click on to the Rurouni Kenshin Music Package, further down this page. Basically anything TMR sings is good in my opinion, because they are so reliable. My friend and I refer to any complete album by TMR as the "HOLY GRAIL OF ALL CDS!!!!" because once again, they're just so reliable!!! The only other Japanese groups who are as reliable as them are "Luna Sea" this Nirvana-ish band...I like them too, and "Pizzicato Five" this unique club-pop band.
You can find all these songs at the site Japan Lyrics where they have a whole database of cool songs.
Now on the subject of anime, if like Ranma 1/2 theme songs, and you're looking for a way to save on cds, buy the Complete Vocal Collection Vol.1 or 2. I have both, and Vol.1 is mainly theme and ending songs (full versions), where as Vol. 2 has a lot of DoCo stuff. It also has the song "It's Love" by RABBIT from the first movie, and "A Piece of Love" by Picasso from the second. If you like Eva (Neon Genesis Evangelion), especially if you like the theme song, I'd really recommend that you get the album "Refrain" which is full of songs sung by Yoko Takahashi (theme song singer), that are really good. If instrumentals are more your bag, they've got a double cd out, and the first album--which I do have-- which is also good. It doesn't have that many "Fly Me to the Moon"'s (thank god!!) For Yu*Yu*Hakusho, I'd recommend you get the "Legend of Yu*Yu*Hakusho--Sai-Kyou" album. Basically most of the theme and ending songs are on it plus quite a lot of chara singles...with the exception of "Romantic Soldier" (boooooo!!!!) but for the most part it is amazing, and well worth your money. The Super Dance Mix has these cool remixes of the songs of the series, including the theme song and my perennial fave "Wild Wind". I love "Moonlight Party", and #11, which is sung by Hiei. The only thing that kinda bites are these "DJ" things between each song, b/c I am hardly the Japanese speaker...yet, so I can barely understand what goes on. Can't wait until I do; however. If you're interested in Ruroken music info. check out my Rurouni Kenshin Shrine. I've given my own two cents about Ruroken cds I own, as well as posted up a lyrics package, also available on this page. My favourite Gundam Wing soundtrack is "Operation 4" the chara single album, but that's mainly because "Wild Wing Boys" is on it. Two-Mix's "Rhythm Emotion" is also on it. "Operation 2" is also a chara single album, but the songs aren't as good as the ones in "Operation 4". If you're an FY fan, (Fushigi Yuugi) the Complete Single Collection is a good place to start, because it has most of the songs featured on the show, including the theme song and "I Should Have Known", by Sato Akemi *I think*. I never get the names straight for the theme song singer and the ending singer, but "I Should Have Known" is tha t sad ballad that is played throughout most of the series. Other songs on it you may be heard from the anime are Yui's "I Wish" (...for your love...I wish for your love, na na na na....), Nuriko's "Maiden At Her Best" and that sad song that was played when he died. Even that sadder song played upon Chiriko's death *wahhhh!!!* is present. I also have the Special Single Collection, which features songs by the seiryuu seishis, including the forever awful "Blue Eyes Blue" by Nakago. If you haven't heard this, please don't attempt to try. This album is alright, but I like the previous one better. The Original Soundtrack is also good because the ending song and "Winner" are both on it along with the theme song and "I Should Have Known". There are also some really cool instrumentals from the show. By the way, if you happen to be a Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon fan or a Macross fan (what a grouping...geeez!) Two soundtracks just for you are the Perfect Song Collection -- (Sailor Moon) which has about every song from the anime and movies (incl. my faves "Moon Revenge" and the Sailorstars theme song) and this Macross soundtrack (SM-215 from the SonMay co.) that has Minmay on the cover dressed in purple with this green broach, holding a mike. This soundtrack rocks b/c not only do you get most of the good songs from the first series ("Do You Remember Love" of course), but you get a lot of songs from the OAV Macross II as well, such as the ending song "Deja Vu", and the love song Ishtar sings to the Alus. Last but not least, if you've played the dancing game "Bust-A-Move" you'll know that the soundtrack to this one is pretty good too. I have the original from Japan, which means it cost me a small fortune, but it was soooo worth it. My favourite song is Hiro-kun's "Natural Playboy" though I like GAS-O's "Chemical Love" a lot and Shorty's theme song. My friend Jenn likes the Kitty-N song, which is the occuring theme song of the entire game. I think she's supposed to be the game's mascot or something like that.
