Destination
Deep
On Wednesday 15th March Rotokawa School was visited by an Education Program
called "Destination Deep"
They had a life sized blown up Sperm Whale. They also had fossils and shark
jaws. The Lady talked to us about under the water and the ocean floor. She
told us interesting things like how a giant squid finds his food. He finds
a whale and climbs on top and tries to open the whales blowhole so it will
drown.
An angler fish lives in the bottom of the ocean. If a male sees a female
he'll go over to her and bite a chunk out of her and suck her blood for ever.
Soon the skin starts to form together and they will become one.
If a shark comes across a school of fish, he'll go for one. Then fish will
swim this way and that way to distract the shark. Soon the shark will get
tired and swim away.
At the end of the lesson there was a special surprise - a miniature model
of an undersea volcano. It can get up to 350 degrees underwater.
We thought the visit was a well worthwhile experience. |
