Dalmatians come from ancient dogs. There are some paintings with similar dogs lived many years ago, in the Middle East, in Greece and in Egypt. Englishmen who cared about this race think the dalmatian comes from the Bengala's hound crossed with the bullterrier and the pointer. Former-Yugoslavians believe that the race derives from the ancient Istrian pointer. As a clue, they mention the fact that this kind of dogs has the same name of one of their regions. Others, instead, say that the first Dalmatians arrived in Slavic territories with the Asian Great Dane tribes. Among the different thesis, the International Federation attribuited the birthplace of the race to the Central part of Mediterranean Sea.
Its complex character is also very singular. The combination of its
natural behaviours makes it able to live in different environments
with no problems at all, especially in the family. Its unique colors can be also its worst enemy: the white fur with black spots, in fact, may be more appreciated than its behaviors. It already happened... when the Walt Disney's 101 Dalmatians , in which a couple of dalmatians were desperately looking for their puppies, kidnapped by Crudelia De Mon for their precious fur, appeared for the first time, millions of people get touched and dalmatians knew a fame as a race, first of all because of their colors, and only after (if they did) for their character. At birth, the puppy is almost all white, the spots just can be noticed. At two months of life these spots are still hard to distinguish, but soon they get darker. Dalmatians are loving, patient and happy to be alive. When playing, they don't aim to obtain any particular position in the family's (human family) social order but they demonstrate to well dominate every situation, offering friendship without being arrogant. Especially with kids they're affectionate and patient, while with old persons are careful and discrete. In their freedom moments, dalmatians exercise their elegant and strong structure: they runs everywhere even if, after this, they come back to the owner. Dalmatians are always in good health, and for their alimentation no particular attention is requested.
