A falcon God, Edfu was a warrior, who battled Apep throughout time, each and every night, to keep the Sun from being devoured. When the sun rose each morning, all knew that Heru of Edfu was once again victorious and all was right in the heavens.
Heru of Edfu was worshipped at Behdety in Edfu. He is represented in the form of a winged sun disc and may be seen carved above temple gates, entries into tombs among other places. He is also represented as a great falcon holding the ring of eternity in each claw.
In pyramid texts, reliefs show Edfu on one side of Ra, His father, and Set, His brother, on the other side. These two brothers represent darkenss and light. In the battle between the two, Set rips out His brother's eye, and in turn was castrated by Heru. Later texts have the battle being fought between Heru sa Aset sa Asar, Edfu's nephew, and Set.
