Hanoi, is the capital city of vietnam, and we took a leisurely cyclo ride through the city observing city salespeople at work. We ended our cyclo ride at Ho Kiem Lake in the center, and were inundated by many book/postcard salesmen. It was quite peaceful if you could get away from them.
That night, we visited the Water Puppets which had the puppets coming out of the water, and the puppetteers below the water holding their breath. The next day was spent visiting the sights including Old Cathedral , Flag Tower , Army Museum, featuring wreckage of things shot down
We left Hanoi, for one of the highlights, Halong Bay, made famous from james bond films. We first took a boat ride to Catba island, with a small fishing village
The next day we took a boat cruise around the harbour, including lunch which featured many limestone Karsts from the water some with caves People live on house boats and it is possible to enter large caves with views .... and more views of the bay below
It was with some sadness that we left Halong Bay and headed to the chinese border, After a long bus ride, we made the border crossing, and to the town of Ninming.
From Ning Ming, we had lunch, and then took a boat ride up river to traditional cave paintings which were more than 2000 years old and painted on the cliffs.
That evening, there was a traditional dance show put on by the Zhuong minority people in the area, and this also included some audience participation
Leaving the hotel with a modern bagage transportation system we returned to Ningming via boat, train to Nanning, and then on to Chengyang county
