It was with some sadness we left yangshuo, and headed via bus to LiuZho for the 20 hour train ride to YiChang. However, the train was late only 8 hours and we rearranged the furniture in the soft-sleeper waiting room, and watched a vcd of Elizabeth, with beer and nibbles.
After arriving at Yichang, and our 3 gorges trip in jeapordy because of the late arrival, (although Blair almost got left behind in the rush ) we caught the fery with about 20 minutes to spare.... overnight up the Yangtze river, and via White Emporer City to Fengzhi, an ancient city, doomed to be flooded by the Dam.
Our trip to the little 3 gorges was cancelled due to bad weather, so our boat ride back to Yichang, offered views of the 3 gorges and strange hovercrafts. small villages on the side of the river were to be flooded, with 135m marking the 2003 level, while 175 marking the waterlevel in the year 2009
After looking at the Dam project (our plan to get there by land cancelled by an official visit due to the 50th anniversary of the liberation of YiChang), and several long bridges, we made our way back to Yichang, and observed a large fireworks display. Fireworks in china are certainly interesting, and the whole town (or at least 100's of thousands ) turned up on the side of the river to watch.
We left Yichang, by Bus to Wuhan and then via a one hour China Airlines flight to Huangshan. After a morning walking through Mist Covered mountains the mist started to lift revealing Spectacular views
The next day, we visited snow monkeys and the country around the base including streams and forests
We then took a bus to HuangZho, a city with the famous West Lake which is enshrined in chinese folklore. A large temple complex with many Buddhas and lotus flowers in the lake made for a days pleasant walk around town. The philipino band playing at Desperado's even knew some bahasa indonesia.
