Remembering our Past Presidents:1995-2000

1995

LARRY JEFFERY, was elected as the first president of the Antelope Valley Unit of the Backcountry Horsemen of California, on March 25, 1995, at our first General Meeting. Larry and his wife Darla live locally in the high desert and were very active in the forming of our unit. Larry was one of the (10) Founding Fathers of our unit. Larry and Darla are still active in our unit.

1996

VANCE KIRKPATRICK, was elected as the second president of the Antelope Valley Unit of the Backcountry Horsemen of California, on November 29, 1995, at our General Meeting. Vance was one of the (10) Founding Fathers of our unit, and lives locally in Leona Valley. Vance is still very active in our unit.

1997

WILLIAM MOORE, was elected as the third president of the Antelope Valley Unit of the Backcountry Horsemen of California, on November 20, 1996, at our General Meeting. Bill and his wife Charlene live locally in Palmdale. Bill was very active in the forming of our unit, and was one of the (10) Founding Fathers.

1998

WILLIAM MOORE, was re-elected as the fourth president of the Antelope Valley Unit of the Backcountry Horsemen of California, on November 22, 1997, at our General Meeting. Bill decided that he would volunteer to Chair and Co-Host the Backcountry Horsemen of California's "Rendezvous98." Bill did a tremendous job Co-Chairing and Hosting the Rendezvous98' at our Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, however, as the above picture indicates, the pressure of leadership took its toll on our young president.

1999

JUANITA KIRKPATRICK, was elected as the fifth president of the Antelope Valley Unit of the Backcountry Horsemen of California, on November 18 , 1998, at our General Meeting. Vance's "better half," she, too was instrumental is founding our unit and remains an active member. Juanita is our current Membership Chairperson.

2000

CHUCK POWELL was elected as the sixth president of the Antelope Valley Unit of the Backcountry Horsemen of California, on November 17, 1999, at our General Meeting. Powell spearheaded an incentive program to reward members for donations of time, equipment and money to support the unit's activities, with the emphasis on trail maintenance. Although warned that accepting the position would cause him nothing but heartache, Chuck persisted, and had to undergo open-heart surgery mid term.
