The Caucasus
(Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, South Russia,
North Caucasus)
The Caucasus is a region with considerable
instability, wars and crises in recent years (Georgia/Abkhazia, Nagorno
Karabakh, North Ossetia/Ingushetia, Georgia/South Ossetia, Chechnya).
Security in the Caucasus is affected by structures
and policies in the wider European and Atlantic context.
The priorities that emerge are largely self-evident:
the need to develop a common, co-operative
process of institution-building;
to identify and allocate resources; to collect
and disseminate information/data;
and to promote proactive and replicable civil
society model solutions.
