Excursion I Bardo Museum // Colloseum El Jem // Sfax

After breakfast, a tour of the Bardo National Museum

The Bardo museum is situated in the old palace of the bey, in what was the countryside before, and offers both itself and and the exhibits to be admired. The tour around the museum is a a tour through Tunisian history, but you'll find a strong dominance of Roman and Muslim times, as well as interior and rooms of the last couple of centuries. The best offer is a huge collections of Roman mosaics, one of the best in the world. When you have visited the museum, head back to the center of Tunis,- there is nothing to see in the quarters around the museum.

Continuation to Nabeul the city of pottery:

There is no reason whatsoever to visit Nabeul. Tourists going for fun and comfort, do far better with visiting the elegant neighbour Hammamet, while exploring travellers only will feel disgust by the boring houses, the crowds of Europeans, the dirty beaches, and the bad value for money. Nabeul might entice some, being the capital of pottery, but the quality of today's Tunisian handicraft would only be aceptable if it had been created during a heavy earthquake: Europeans find the lack of accuracy charming, and the Tunisian producers think that Europeans are total idiots who buys any junk, as long as it looks nice at a distance of two metres.

There is one quarter of Nabeul that is charming, the shopping streets in the middle of town, but these are so intensely focused on tourist's wallets, that you will almost feel obliged to buy.

Launch will be served in a charming restaurant build in the coline of El, Kantaoui Montazah El Kantaoui

After Lunch, Departure to El Jem  (Thysdrus) we will visit its  spectacular roman amphitheatre
Replacing a former 8.000-seat, the great amphiteatre of thysdrus was started in the late 2nd or early 3rd C It was not completed, because the legate Capellian was punishing the town for rising in revolt.the amphitheatre is 149m. long, 124m. Wide and 36m high It has 3 arcaded stories crowned by a wall at the top, and enclosed by composite, engaged columns.
The basement under the arena, 65m. long, has vaulted galleries containing rooms where the wild beasts were kept.
During the Vandal invasion (430) and the first Arab attacks (647) people took refuge in the amphitheatre; it was used as a fortress by the KAHENA's troops in their fight against HASSAN IBN NOOMAN( late 4th C) more recently, in 1695, MOHAMMED BEY blew a hole in it to flush out Ali BEY's supporters.

Afterwards Departure to the Village of BIR ALI BEN KHALIFA, Relax Center Khemaissa unique in its type for relaxation and rest erected in the middle of a big olive trees garden, with its restaurants, bars, swimming pool, modern Turkush Bath and especialy the giant tents
