General News1. Please remember that when parking on the street, you MAY NOT park 50 feet within any stopsign, intersection or driveway. SEVERAL cars were parked illegally this past weekend on the street. Cars were parked right next to the driveway going into the turn-around, and some were parked right by the stopsign at Highcroft. There are white tick marks painted on the curb that show where 50 feet is. DO NOT park between the white tick mark and the entrance/stopsign/etc. The police were out ticketing this weekend. Please tell your spouses and friends who come to watch you as well!!! Also, you may want to park your car facing the right direction as well. For example, you want your car to be facing Carillon and Gramercy, not Highcroft. 2. Catering.....most of you are probably aware of the catering issue that the tennis committee had to deal with after this weekend. First of all, the catering went over very well. There was enough food, good variety, etc. A few minor changes will be made that will be discussed below. However, as this was a trial run for us to try the Mad Hatter, this was also a trial week for her. After her first exhausting weekend, she felt that she could not physically do this all by herself and that she would need to hire help, which would raise the price. The committee would not agree to the price being raised, but were open to other alternatives which we discussed with the captains. We have come to a happy medium, which most captains are very agreeable to, and we hope that everyone does their best to be positive and work with the situtation. ANy team has the right to still not participate. The solution is this: On match day, the caterer (her name is Robin) will arrive 30 minutes before the matches are to begin (8:30 on Saturday, 12:30 on Sunday). She will park her van on the street right in front of the pavilion (between courts 9 and 10). We are asking that a group of people simply walk up that small hill to assist her in carrying down all of the food and drinks. She had to make countless trips on her own, and it would be one trip if we could pitch in and help her out. For clean-up, we are going to pick up all of our trash, throw away any unused food and consolidate her baskets and dishes into one pile for her so that when she returns later that day, it is all ready for her to pick-up and go. We felt that this was an optimum solution, and we are willing to try it out. Again, if your team does not wish to do so, that is fine. A few minor adjustments will be made to the "assortment" of food from last weekend. Instead of having such a wide assortment of foods, we have asked that she limit it to 4 or 5 dishes, and increase the quantity of each one. For example, there may be sandwiches, fruit, dessert and 2 appetizers, but more of each than what was provided last weekend. There will also be less soda and more ice. The gatorade will now be provided in 1 gallon jugs versus the large 5 gallon container to try to eliminate so many yellow jackets from hanging around (they were attracted to the gatorade that dripped from the jug). We know that this solution may not satisfy everyone, but we hope that we have at least satisfied the majority, which is all we can realistically hope for. Again, each team has the right to not participate. 3. Finally, we ask that when each team is done playing their match, that they not only bring their scorecard up off of the court, but that they also empty the small trashcan on the court into the large trashcan in the pavilion. The large trashcans must be rolled up to the curb at the end of the day for pick-up.

USTA RATINGS ARE IN SESSION NOW!
Canned GoodsSuzanne Brizzi in the Activities Office contacted us regarding a contest to collect canned goods to give to the needy at Thanksgiving time. She has challenged all of the groups within Legacy Park to see who can collect the most canned goods. The goods will be counted and "displayed" at the Haunted Trail in October. They will then be put in baskets and given to the needy in November. The tennis committee feels that this is a good cause, and would like everyone to participate if possible. Our plan is to have a large tub in the pavilion at each home match. If everyone could bring just one can each time they come to the courts on the weekend (whether watching or playing), and put it in the tub, then we will gather the cans until the date of the Haunted Trail and turn them in. The cans will be "displayed" with a sign that says "Legacy Park Tennis" so that all those walking through the trail can see what organizations contributed and how much. We will start collecting the canned goods at this week's home matches (September 23/24). Thanks for helping out on such a good cause. |
New Tennis Committee Representativesbeing sought!
It is that time of year again...the tennis committee is looking for 6 new representatives to form the 2000-2001 tennis committee. The current committee's reign is up at the end of this year. One member from the 1999-2000 committee will remain to serve a second "term", and 6 new members will join to form a 7-person committee. Many ask what being on the committee involves. That is up to each individual committee. Typically, it involves a 2-3 hour meeting once a month to discuss ways to improve our facility, how to raise money, how to spend money, keep the tennis community updated on all tennis issues, etc. The current tennis committee broke our duties into 7 different responsibilities. The new committee can keep this the same, add new jobs, delete jobs, etc. An example of how we did it is as follows: 1. President 2. Secretary (records minutes of each meeting) 3. Treasurer (keeps track of income and expenses) 4. Correspondance (emails community to keep updated on all issues) 5. Meeting Liason (attends HOA meetings to keep abreast on HOA's goals and to represent the tennis community.) 6. Scheduler (keeps up with practice and match schedules at kiosk) 7. Scorecard Keeper (gets out and puts away scorecards each weekend) Some new suggestions may be to have a person dedicated to creating and maintaining a website, ( although there is one in existence, right here ;0), one person responsible for running mixers, event coordinator, etc. The ideas are endless and up to each individual committee. The new committee would work with the existing committee for about one month prior to taking over. If you are a person who likes to be actively involved in your community, you have an interest in the continual improvement of our tennis facility and tennis functions, and you want to see the tennis committee remain active and resourceful, then please email us right away to express your interest. You may email any questions that you may have as well. Thanks for your interest. The 1999-2000 Tennis Committee |
