Gendou Ikari. Commander-in-chief of the special agency, Nerv. He is also chief director of the Evangelion Development Project, also known as Project E. He doesn't show much attention towards his son, Shinji, but shows much affection towards Rei. This alienates Shinji from him very much. He is very calm, even in dire situations and unafraid to take any risk. He is quite mysterious because most facts about him are unknown or were not revealed in the series, but before he married Yui, his name was Rikobungi until he changed it into Ikari. He met his wife, Yui Ikari, when they where in college before the event later known as "Second Impact". 

He is also a member of Seele. A secret organization whose plan is to commence the Human Instrumentality Project where all humans will evolve into a single, omnipotent being after the Third Impact. This is the scenario of Seele but Gendou seems to be master minding his own scenario...
