The
ORDER of HERMES
THE
GRAND HERMETIC HOUSES
Among the ranks of the ceremonialists stands a venerable and ancient society
known by most as the Order of Hermes. It existed as The Cult of Mercury
in ancient Rome, and went through a centuries-long transition that carried
it into the medieval times, where it was a bastion of learning and enlightenment
in a dark and ignorant time. Its pride swelled unforgivably in those
days, and the magi of the Order grew obsessed with power and influence;
in the darkest times of their hubris, they also forced those wizards with
styles and beliefs different than their own to either join or die. While
they squabbled like greedy children, the Order of Reason laid subtle foundations
to take control of the World Praxis, something even the most arrogant of
the Hermetic Houses had never presumed to do (or never managed to do).
The Mythic Praxis faltered and slowly disappeared, the Order and its sullen
allies lost the war for reality. Many of the Order's Masters still
have not forgiven themselves for what their pride and infighting allowed
the Technomancers to destroy. They now
Out of the confederation of twelve Hermetic Houses that dominated the magickal
Praxis in the Mythic Age, only five remain. Four were subsumed into
the largest House, Ex Miscellanea, and two fell to the Technocrats,
their ways later taken up by new Houses that arose in the following centuries.
The Houses now number nine: Bonisagus, Guernicus,
& Shaea; Flambeau,
Tytalus,
& Janissary; and Ex Miscellanea,
Fortunae, & Thig.

Janissary = Mind, Guernicus = Matter, Bonisagus =
Prime,
Ex Misc = Life, Merinita = Spirit, Criamon =
Time). All Hermetic apprentices start with two dots in their focus

to put wherever desired.
